Jeramie
The death toll has now risen to 5. Horrible but it could have been much worse considering the conditions and the energy in the storms. The number of visible tornados was very high in this storm. That was the real danger. Typically you have a few touch down in the state and they cause severe damage. What made last night so dangerous is that there were over 20 reported on the ground in Oklahoma Alone with an additional 10+ reported in Kansas. Damage trails are showing what looks to be F2 - F3 damage adding up to what will likely be in the millions of dollars. Oklahoma/ Kansas were the target for the largest scientific study of tornadic storms yesterday with over 100 scientist and 60 chasing vehicles setup for yesterdays storms. The internet is literally flooded with pictures and video from yesterday as there were visible, on the ground tornados over much of the state. We had a major swing in weather and it made for horrible conditions, prime for this type of storm. At the front of the storm was low 60's while behind the storm from the temps were in the 80's. As the warm front and storm rolled through it built up energy and set into motion an evening of Chaos. In my opinion the fact that this was during the evening probably saved countless lives. These types of storms hitting after dark cause massive devistation. Our next chance for tornadic storms is Wednesday....

hutchies
Biggest chasing problems they had is these storms were moving 50 to 60 mph. Chaser's nightmare. Also very hard to give advanced warning.

wtnhunt
These types of storms hitting after dark cause massive devistation. Our next chance for tornadic storms is Wednesday.... Yep. Patterns here seems that more often we get the bad ones after dark. With the trees here it makes it tough to see anything coming anyway, but you are right about those night time storms, people sleeping and unaware of the warnings as well as not seeing what is going on. Last we had tornadoes on the ground around us was the weekend we had the 15 inches of rainfall and they hit at night. Hope it does not get bad there Wednesday. Hope everyone keeps safe. buckee
I've never experienced a twister of that magnitude before. I've seen little ones (whirlwinds) but nothing that scary. I hope everyone we know in here and their families are OK.
