robinhood2010
I love this website. there is never a dull moment. My question to you veteran hunters is. This is the first year in about 6 years that they planted soybean instead of corn. Can you share any tips or advice on hunting the area. There is a 5 acre patch of woods on the southwest corner off the field. Deer travel the south end of the soybean field and bed on the edge early in the morning. Also there is a creek that runs east and west 70 yrds south of the soybeans. It's like they funnel down to this corner of my woods.I just want to do things right and i hope you can help a fellow bow hunter out. Thanks
Tim Andrus
sound like you have it already figured out...play the wind and maybe put out a trail cam to finalize your decision
robinhood2010
When setting up off of the soybean or a travel route how close do you like to get when hunting with bow in October? Would you consider using a blind or just tree stand only? Don't mean to ask so many questions but what type of calls or scents would you use for the early bow season? The deer have no pressure in this area for it is private and a lot of farm land with horses on the west end of the property and cattle on the east end. They seem to bed by the creek close to water and the trails are the same every year. Thanks a million for any tips or advice you can give. Hope you take a record buck this 2010 season. Good luck to you and all of your staff. Edited May 14, 2010 by robinhood2010
Tim Andrus
I like to get around 20 yards or so depending on the right tree to hang a stand. I dont use scents too much, but when I do its closer to the rut. Just remenber to play the wind and dont over hunt your stands.. your welcome part of my job here at Reaeltree...good luck! robinhood2010
Is it ok to clean up a trail that the deer use as a travel route there seems to be more growth by the time bow season starts? What I mean by that. The area of woods is so thick with briars and broken limbs on the trail that I use to get from point a & b. I would like to take a weedeater to the trail just one time this month. Spray some round up and clear the trail to eliminate noise and scent trails from myself. Is that going overboard? This area is about the only clear spot to travel.

robinhood2010
Besides playing the wind what is the best scent control method and type of product that you would reccomend? I've used scent killer on my clothing and really don't know what is best. Sometimes when at a stand the wind can be just right and I'll get blown at by deer that I can't even see. What could I possibly be doing wrong. The reason I'm asking so much is I've seen really nice bucks early in the year on trail camera and then come time to bow hunt the bucks are out in the dark of the morning or at low light at night. Could you share some of your wisdom and knowledge on these two areas. It's great hearing it from a pro hunter. Thanks,ROBINHOOD 2010
Tim Andrus
some will disagree with me on this but if you can afford it purchase scent lok or scent blocker every little bit helps at crunch time.. you cant always beat the wind but keep plugging away
