Dawg
I dropped off my mulie at the taxi back in November 09. She told me to check back in 3 months, so I called here somewhere around mid Feb of this year. She told me it would be another 2 months. This time she didn't say to check back at the end of that 2 months. Would it be too pushy for me to call her again to check on my mount? Dakota
I don't think so...go ahead and give her a call...but don't expect it to me done yet either. But if she has a decent turn-around then it could be ready at any time now. Dakota
RTF
She must do very little business, if she told you to check back in 3 months. That's just unheard of in this profession. She has to be tanning her own hides if she gave you that time frame. Why in the world she would give you a 3 month turn-a-round time is beyond me. I'm not sure if she tans the hides herself, she just opened her own business. She had been working for another taxi in the area and decided to do it herself. pintail_drake2004
WoW 3 months would be nice!!! My last buck was dropped off in November and picked up in August. This past season, my bro and I dropped off 2 buck and 2 ducks in November and beginning of December. Taxi told us be close to end of summer. Personally I would rather them take their time and do it RIGHT than hurry and mess it up. I have mounted many critters myself, and tanned many more, it is by no means an easy process. Best to take your time and not forget anything so you can pay attention to detail
RTF
Not sure I understand what you mean. You say 3 months is unheard of to get a mount back? Only new taxidermists with very little work experience could pull something like this off. Even the big outfits with several employees cant return a mount this fast. Well...idk...we dropped off my bull's cape in October, brought the antlers in in mid-December and picked it up the first week of February. And this was a big operation too! Tominator
I've only had 1 taxidermist deliver when he said he would. I get the feeling they want to keep the customer happy by telling them "3 months..." but, in reality, they take a lot longer if they're done right. wtnhunt
I would think she would call you as soon as its ready....I would anyways, I would want to get paid for my work asap. Kind of figured the same. Taxidermist we switched to this year told me it would be August for my deer. I dropped the deer off late December, guessing my bobcat will be done around the same time. Really interested in seeing how they turn out. Did not have to give him a deposit, which was used to doing with our old taxidermist, that in mind I figure he will let me know just as soon as he is done so he can get his money. Don't really see the harm in calling to check on progress, figure I will check on mine mid August if he has not called me by then.
sskybnd
i think it realy depends on how busy also, my taxi does the work by himself, but has a helper flesh the hides, i gave him my 2009 buck in nov and got him back in apr. and he's just now starting on my 2009 antalope. but i did tell him there was no real hurry on it, talked to him a week ago, has the hide taned, so im sure it wont be to much longer. Ethan Givan
I had the same thing happen to me. I took my bobcat to the taxidermist at the end of December 09 and he told me it would be about 4 months. So April rolls around and my mom decides she wants her turkey mounted so we take it down there to him and I ask about my bobcat. Come to find out its really going to be another 3-4 months on my cat because he got alot of African Game in and the guy paid him in full. So he bumped all the African mounts ahead of mine. He does amazing work so Im willing to wait.
