Jeramie
Coming in on the heels of a massive tornado outbreak, straight-line winds hit NE Oklahoma Early this morning causing widespread damage and massive power outages. The news is confirming there may have been some small spin ups as well as 60, 70, and 80 mph winds. The winds blew over large trees, blew out glass, and caused severe damage to structures. Roads are blocked by trees and debris. On my 55 mile drive there was only a short few miles with any power. Most of the area is down meaning potentially one hundred thousand without power this morning. Tulsa County Alone has well over 29,369 and that number is growing by the minute. That Tulsa number is 11% of the total customer base in NE Oklahoma alone. There are several other counties effected such as Rogers, Mayes, Cherokee, and Delaware. Schools are closing and our Emergency Services at out in full force trying to protect the general public from fallen trees, debris, and downed power lines. Sure didnt make for a fun drive in this morning. Here is a link to our local news channel and their report. www.kotv.com http://www.newson6.com/global/story.asp?s=12474543

Jeramie
We didnt get the alarm out NE of Tulsa but the wind was warning enough. I didnt get to look around my place to see if anything was damaged, it was still dark. Hopefully everything is still in its place...
Gator
Seems like this happened back after the big tornado in '08, everyday after that rain and storms. Seems like ALL storms eventually head to Tulsa right up I-44. I got woke up around 4 by the radio alert, but all we had were heavy rain
Jeramie
Tulsa county now up to 32,000 without power. The storm was strong enough it rolled over a Semi and trailer loaded with steel pipe at American Alloy in Catoosa (NE Tulsa).

Turkeygirl
Wow...glad you are safe Jeramie! Some scary storms out there...doesn't make me want to move out of NY state, lol. Though last summer we had a tornado touch down in the state forest couple miles up the road from the camp....one road was closed because it left a path of uprooted trees through the woods and many down on the road...Don't want to think what may have happened at camp... They really arent that bad. After a while of this you get use to them and its not a huge deal unless it turns deadly. Also, this magnatude of storms doesnt move through every year. It cycles and every few years we have a very bad spring.

Jeramie
You'll be thankful they did when the wind is caused by a tornado..... In this case there were rain wrapped tornados they didnt know were there until after daylight. Locals told news crews there were tornados. No one believed them. After daylight they were able to establish damage paths.
sooner girl
You'll be thankful they did when the wind is caused by a tornado..... Oh I am now after seeing the damage and how close some of the damage was to my house..I never lost power but my parents did. It ripped a big piece of the roof off of my Brothers work in South Tulsa there was a 35ft hole in the roof!
Shaun_300
Man that's scary stuff, Ontario has been seeing more and more tornados every year. Last year it killed a couple people that were up in northwestern Ontario fishing, they were from Oklahoma. Bet thats the last thing they thought they'd be worried about was tornadoes up there! I must say I'd love to see them down there someday though! I'm fascinated by severe weather like that. Tell ya what Jeramie, you come up here when we're getting a blizzard with 3 feet of snow falling, and I'll go down there when a tornado is coming. Tominator
It was supposed to be stormy here yesterday, but we escaped storms. We have a chance of storms again today. It's pretty muggy here.
ruttinbuc
Hope everyone stays safe and heeds every warning. Amazed at the devastation on the TV. Must be beyond terrifying to be right there in it. Thunderstorms never materialized here. Temps going up.
wtnhunt
Insult to Injury, yep Hope it calms down over in Oklahoma. Sorry to hear all the damage. Definitely an insult to injury here, yet more flooding and rain is supposed to continue on today. Have foot deep ruts in our drive and water standing on high ground up on this hill.
