pointing_dogs_rule
Hi Guys: I've been turkey hunting for 25+ years and have heard about this, however, I have never seen it until tonight. It was the last day of the season here in Iowa so I set up under a roosting area. My blind was barely in the woods and the decoys in a freshly planted oat field. From the back of my blind comes this noise and then my hen decoy is flattened and a Redtail hawk is sitting on the decoy. He only stayed there about 15 seconds and then flew off. Pretty cool to see that. Note: 15 minutes before the season closes here comes two toms and two hens. They crossed the fence 70 yards away and flew up to roost in the tree directly behind me. I had thought that they would fly into the tree to my right. Oh well, another great season is over. See you guys next year... same time , same channel. Good luck to all the dog
hunterbobb
I had this happen to me about 10 years ago. I was set up on top of a ridge. Was hen calling and a Hawk swoped in and attacked my decoy. He must have realized something was wrong cause he pulled up at the last second and never touched the decoy. Sorry you didn't get a bird Dog. Sounds like you had an interesting hunt though. :gun2:
String Music
I wish they would make red tailed hawks legal to kill. There was a study done in Kentucky involving red tailed hawks and turkey poults. A hen had 27 poults she was in charge of. The red tailed hawk followed the hen and killed one poult a day for 27 days.
