Eddie234
What do you guys/gals do over the summer and winter to get ready for next spring? I figure I'll read some books and practice my calling somewhat but is there anything else?
Goinghuntin
Keep practicing all year long, sure helps when next spring comes along. But I have to get ready for bow season so I kinda forget about turkey all summer and fall long Nathan
Turkeygirl
I switch off the turkey mode and get into deer mode. Usually come about March is when I go back in to turkey mode, lol. Should do more off season calling practice though....I feel like my slate calling could use some improvement....
Ravin R10 man
I just figure it will come when the snow melts....then I'll deal with it.
Rhino
Like others, I focus my attention toward deer hunting/scouting. While doing so though, I'll still catch birds on trial cams and keep tabs on where birds tend to roost and where gobblers are seen.
hunterbobb
I agree with a few others. After turkey season ends I switch to deer mode.
Born4it
Scout and hunt for deer, and if a turkey walks by, I'll try to stick it from the treestand :-) Like was already said, I should practice my calling more, but I'll read articles and pretty much wait for March... If you don't deer hunt, you should do some fall turkey hunting! Never done it, but it sounds like a whole new game...seems like it'd be fun! God bless, Ryan
Strut10
There's never a bad time to practice your calling..........except when you've got a gobbler in front of you. You can't cram on calling, either. Practice some all year long. Don't wait 'til the week before next season to bone up.
BrandonBowling21
i agree with the above!!!
PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
In PA we have a fall season which serves to temper the wild eyed look I get when I cannot hunt those big birds. I also practice the calls and even in deer season I am actually looking for turkey sign. After deer season I always have some wing bones and if the mood strikes me I make several of them. If you want a real challange try using a wing bone call. If you are interested in making one, the NWTF site has some good instructions.
