hunterbobb
I don't watch any of them any more. Some of them are canned hunts where they are hunting inside a fenced enclosure. All of them are guided hunts where some elseone does all the work. The star of the show just walks out to some stand the guide told him to go to. All of them celebrate like they just really accopmplished something great. There is not enough respect paid to the animal they just harvested. I saw one show where a Rich Doctor decided he was going to take up hunting and he wanted his 14 year old son to go with him. On the second day of the fenced hunt the kid shoots a big buck. Then he is talking about how their patients paid off. How you have to wait for the right time to harvest the animal you really want. Give me a break this kid spent maybe 10 hours in a stand and he's telling me about patients. It made me sick. Finally most of them are just pimping some product they are tring to sell you. I spend my time watching History or Discovery channels. I guess it's never too late to get an education. :gun2:

Ohiobucks
Funny thing is, that's usually where Tom's arrows hit. Over the last 5 years, I stuck 2 deer in the femoral artery by accident, both died within 150 yards, and this is what I get.... :crutch: BTW, it is Whitetail Freaks that has the constant beat box theme songs going during the course of the show, can't stand it. Hunting footage is good, all the production stuff jammed in there to make it "appealing" to viewers has got to change IMO. :taped:

That and the fact that you don't have any 150's on the wall yet. Certainly can't tell everyone you're a good hunter, what fun is that? :offtopic: BTW, it is Whitetail Freaks that has the constant beat box theme songs going during the course of the show, can't stand it. Can't stand the shows that do the heavy metal guitar riffs either. Why do producers think that's cool? It's almost as annoying as the fake blood trail scenes. With you not associating with me anymore and all since you have new access to 1,000's of acres in Coshocton county and your own hunting land acquisition. My loss I guess.....:shifty:

I can deal without the cinematic effects. Not throwing either into the "dumb show" category, but lay off the dancing.

You'll always be welcome wherever I hunt, goes for your son too. Well, unless Rink is in town, then you're out, Jake's in.
ruttinbuc
The sad part is the hunting gets lost in all of it. I don't mind the special effects. Some are overdone. Some fit. Music is part of every show on TV, but they could stop playing follow the leader. That is what it comes to. The small budget guys think they have to be like the big budget guys and overdo it trying. More about the hunt is what a lot of people ask for, but that seems to fall on deaf ears.
PotashRLS
Couldn't agree more with Jackie Bushman. Put him with Roger Raglin and you have a train wreck!!!
redkneck
There used to be one called "Global Persuits" I think came on Versus channel. I swear that one morning I watched these guys ride around paved roads in a Saab until they got close to some stags. The fat guy got out and slipped behind a stone wall about 75 yards from the car and shot one, then started to talk about what a good stalk it was! Nut
"Spirit of the Wild" is my least favorite for numerous reasons. Plus I hate the ones that play background music while the guy is whispering.
camoman1
My dad was here this weekend with us, and he likes to watch the hunting shows (he agrees that most are foolish but watches anyways). He was watching Fred Eichler's show, Easton something-or-other....I actually dont mind Fred, I like his approach to hunting. BUT...the whole first half of the show was him wandering around in an airport!!!! I do miss the way hunting shows used to be. They were more ''how to'' shows. They seemed to be like learning tools for the viewers. Now its "plant Super Buck Soybeans and wear Hide-O-Flauge brand clothes and sit in this Lazy Boy treestand and this and that product". The shows now dont represent how most hunters hunt. Not that we all woudnt like to have access to tons of great property, and time and money to hunt all over the place. Adjam5
It is painful to watch anything Jackie Bushman... He is way too self promoting. ( Be careful Mike Waddell, you are everywhere). Zumbo is boring, but he does a lot for the Wounded Warriors, so he gets a pass. Uncle Teds show is more about who he is than hunting. No one is more on the forefront for hunters and gun owners than Ted Nugent. "Shes beyond the lodge" Horrible horrible show. Listening to that female english accent narrator is torture!!! Would rather watch Bushman.

clrj3514
I enjoy watchin shows where every buck they harvest isn't a 150" wallhanger. I can't remember the name of the show but I saw one the other day where the guys were takin deer I KNOW didn't get close to 100" and I enjoyed it. Real hunters! Jorden
So most of the people here, myself included, agree that these shows suck. So who is watching them. I watch some of them like The Crush, Road Trips, Bone Collector, Shockey, Realtree, Eastmans. No real problem with any of them or the way they conduct themselves and their business. I guess if you dont like them, then dont watch.
Randy
I know, I know, I haven't been around much but I decided to check in and this post caught my eye. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems many of us critize these shows because most people feel they are fake or put together leaving valuable parts of the hunt out? I can't speak for everyone obviously but I've killed a few deer and I can put in the missing pieces. Some, I agree, are down right annoying but I guess I'm weird, I like to see a few backstraps die on occasion...
Swamphunter
Be careful Mike Waddell, you are everywhere I used to love Mike Waddell but now, I refuse to watch or buy anything Waddell... He convinced not to buy the Bone Collector Edition Thompson Center just in the nick of time!!! Saved myself $800!! Thanks Mike!!!!
Ashley
I'd rather be out in the woods doing my own hunting than watch any of the hunting shows
