Turkeygirl
Bird was roosted back by the gravle pit this AM. Set up on the logging road in hopes the hens brought him down it. Nope they went right out to the field. So I circled around and went over to the pines where the went the one day, in hopes they'd come through the field and across. Well they came out alright, stayed out in the middle then went way way out in the field. So I then circled back up around the pines and hid in the hedge row. A hen would talk back to me and vice versa but they stayed way way out, but only about 150 yards from our woods:jaw: They then turned and went even farther out in the field so I went back across the gravle pit, circled through the woods and he was now with his hens at an upper corner of some woods. I circled below, heard him gobble, it was distant, not sure where he was....I let him be and came home, soaked in sweat, and wondering how I am going to get this bird...I may not. I had 4 hens with him and 1 wandered off, she must have gone to nest...that still leaves 3. He's got a nickname though...Vanisher...because that is what he does best:pop:
maytom
I've been after one particular gobbler myself. He gobbles once or twice in the morning then goes quiet!! Been to this spot twice so far only to have himn pull the very same stunt. I now know the direction he goes, so next time out there I'll be waiting for him to show up. He's not interested in any calling what so ever. Thinking this may be a 3+ year old bird!!
Turkeygirl
Yeah this bird always seems to go opposite of me...whether he knows I'm there orn ot...actually it's the hens...I'm thinking mine is probably at least a 3 year old as well...they are tricky but how I want to hold that beard and spurs in my hands, lol Here's 2 photos I got of him...me in a hedgerow watching this bird about 150 yards from the back our our 14 acres of land:

Goinghuntin
Can you park a ground blind right there in that green stuff... That's what I was thinking They sound really tricky out there Ruth, much like we had it in IA. I couldn't pull it off though. Good luck to you :eat: Nathan
