Turkeygirl
Didn't go out hunting this AM, had to work. Got home and went out up back to theg ravel pit, no gobble. Drive around the corner to the new ridge he was hanging on, hooted on my call and he gobbled right back, sounds like he's roosted about where he was Friday. So I'm going to go in earlier than before and sit by that logging trail I think he flew down on Friday. Not sure if I should put a decoy out or not and just sit and wait and pray, lol. Seems like he's been flying down first and waiting around for the hens. Dunno if putting my hen decoy on the ground with the jake on top of her would make him upset or not....Any thoughts? I'm thinking decoyless...I dunno. Wish me luck!
Goinghuntin
After almost getting a gobbler this spring but not being able to pull it off due to not having a decoy, I've been using a decoy in every setup I've hunted where you can see farther than about 30 yards. In my experience, the gobblers just won't come that extra 15 yards when they can see clear as day that there isn't a hen there making that noise Hope that helped lol Good luck out there Ruth! bobwhite
I would put your hen decoy out with the jake trying to mount her. This will make him think an other bird is cutting in,Good luck.
