Guest gt2003
Re: UV brightners in landry detergents????? And....if, by chance, you've already washed your hunting clothes in regular detergent theres still hope. There used to be some stuff called "UV KILLER" that would somehow take the brighteners out or dull them. It was really neat. You could hang your clothes up by a blue light (like a bug light) and spray this stuff on them and you could see a HUGE difference. The "glow" would disappear. Recently most all hunting clothes are made without these brighteners. I haven't seen any of the UV killer recently but I'm sure its still available. Try a internet search for UV Killer and I'm sure you'll be able to find it. It used to come in a blue bottle and you could often find it packed with a bottle of non-UV laundry detergent in an orange bottle. I'll look and post a link if I find it. Good luck, Greg

Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: UV brightners in landry detergents????? If you want to check your gear for UV brighteners, get a blacklight and see if they flouresce (sp?) under it.

Guest gt2003
Re: UV brightners in landry detergents????? You'll freak! Hang your clothes by a black light or a bug zapper and spray the UV killer on them. You'll be amazed. I did it the first time I used the uv killer and was amazed. Its a pretty neat thing but haven't seen it much with the new "low UV" clothing. Let us know what you find out. Thanks, Greg
Stinger-Hunter
Re: UV brightners in landry detergents????? I've actually read in several places that the UV studies done in the late 80s and early 90s have proven much ado about nothing. millions of deer have been killed before the UV killer products and they've tested lots of deer only to prove that it isn't that big of a deal. I would be more worried about scent and movement.
MUDRUNNER
Re: UV brightners in landry detergents????? I USE THE UV LAUNDRY SOAP,I THINK ITS CALLED SPORT WASH OR SOMETHING.IT IS SCENT FREE AND A BOTTLE LASTS QUITE A WHILE.I HAVE READ THAT CERTAIN TREE BARKS,PLANTS AND FUNGUS ALSO GIVE OFF UV GLOWS,SO I DONT THINK IT IS NECCESSARY,BUT I THINK IT DOES SOME GOOD. Tominator
Re: UV brightners in landry detergents????? old news and one of the biggest gimmicks in all of deer hunting IMHO
LifeNRA
Re: UV brightners in landry detergents????? I believe its hype! I walked into a booth at a sportsmans show a few years back. My coat never glowed blue! Just another gimmick.
wtnhunt
Re: UV brightners in landry detergents????? Welcome to the forums. Not a gimmick at all. Dr. Rue and some others who have done research on this have proven that deer can see ultraviolet light in the different frequencies than how we see. Rue suggests using a wash that removes the uv brighteners that are in normal detergents. I normally use sportswash or cabelas wash for my hunting clothes. The stuff is cheap enough and unscented and think it does what it claims to do.
MUDRUNNER
Re: UV brightners in landry detergents????? THE UV SPORT WASH I USE HAS NO AROMA AT ALL.I WASH WITH IT AND THEN PUT THE CLOTHES IN THE DRYER WITH A FRESH EARTH LAUNDRY SHEET.WORKS GREAT FOR ME.MAYBE YOU HAVE SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAN THE STUFF I HAVE. johnf
Re: UV brightners in landry detergents????? I use scent-a-way and baking soda to wash my hunting clothes in. Saturday a doe walked withing 20 feet of me and never saw nor smelled me. She acted like I wasn't there. I also use scent-a-way fresh earth scent neutralizer on all my clothes, my face hair and hands.
wtnhunt
Re: UV brightners in landry detergents????? Sportswash, scent away, cabelas scent exterminator brand and others will all remove human odors from clothes and do not enhance or brighten the uv like normal laundry detergents will. The uv brightening type detergents like tide and gain and some others are not detergents you should use if you want to see any deer in the woods in the first place.
