Turkeygirl
So the gobbler was roosted, same spot. I set up on the logging trail just above him where he flew down the other day. Watched him gobble and strut on the branch. What's he do!? Fly down the trail to where I had been set up the other day!:gun1: Grrrr....So if he's back tonight, I'm trying to decide to I set up below now or stick to where I was this AM, thinking that he's playing tricks and going to land up the trail next time around....I did get 4 hens into my jake/hen decoy set up...they may have been his hens but he gobbled from down below and wandered off. I finally scattered the hens and snuck below and hard a hen yelping he gobbled, she cackled and shut up.
WHISKEYSWAMP
gotta love them dumb birds eh...lol just curious as to why you don't hunt them until noon? maybe figure out where he is heading mid morning and if you don't get him off the roost, then sneak around to where he wants to go. Or just stick with your spot and wait until he's done breeding his hen, he might just swing back around your way.
Turkeygirl
The hens I swear never leave and I think he waits for them to come back to him, I dunno. Can't go out tomorrow, gotta work but will hopefully roost him tomorrow night and hunt Fri-Sun....hard!
Crappiepro
Turkeygirl heres what ya do, Go the tree or area where this tom roost and put two brite colored shirts or clothes in a triangle and make yourself the third corner of the triangle. This will spook the birds and put them in the woods to escape out of the triangle to you the third corner. This sounds crazy but hey Ive done it, but choked the shot a few years back!! The bird I was chasing would play me the fool and I got one chance and blew it. Keep the clothes in a distance you can still see them. Try it let us know how its works! WHISKEYSWAMP
The hens I swear never leave and I think he waits for them to come back to him, I dunno. Can't go out tomorrow, gotta work but will hopefully roost him tomorrow night and hunt Fri-Sun....hard! I had a similar run in with a bird 3 years ago... I'd set up close but he'd always do the opposite of what I would do. after two weeks of this, I finally figured out he and his hens would always go by a certain point along a fence row a couple hundred yards away. The next day I set up there and finally sealed the deal. If you have a general idea of where the birds come out of the woods and into the field, maybe try setting up there... just another idea. good luck this weekend!!! RTF
Gobblers down here are already grouping back up. Good luck TG.
Flintlock1776
Keep at it and god luck. I was written up in Buckmasters about a decade ago (time flies!) as it took me most of the season to get my biggest Tom ever. I'd be on one side of the farm field and he'd be across from me. This went on for weeks. Finally, I just hung to one spot and as the story ends, I bagged that tricky Tom!!
Turkeygirl
No hunt this AM, work. Went out tonight after work...no gobble from either spots he's roosted at previously...dunno...maybe just an off night I hope. Will try to go out tomorrow am to the ridge he's been at the most.
