redkneck
So say the initial reports. I hope they're right!!!!
Orion_70
I really hope the top kill really worked and plugged it up. Hopefully they will then divert all resources and attention to cleaning up the catastrophe created so far.
cinch314
Yea I hope it works too. I wish they would have put them sand barricades in place before the oil got to the wetlands as well.

ruttinbuc
Hopeful it does the job without making things worse. Saw a couple scenarios of if this happens or that happens.... BP is like big business everywhere. Always looking for ways to shortcut and save a penny at the risk of dollars. They keep saying that BP is responsible for every dime of the cost of this disaster. We all know who will eventually pay the price...US!
Shaun_300
BP won't have enough money to pay for all the disaster that the oil slick has caused, not even close! Mike is right, the USA will be paying for most of it. Here comes more debt for you guys. Watched part of the live Obama press conference at lunchtime. wtnhunt
Watched part of the live Obama press conference at lunchtime. Caught part of it too, was kind of interested in seeing if Obama would field questions and how he would answer them. Seems he is pawning off the blame not only on bp but also on the previous admin for their crooked inspectors/regulators. Don't guess the people he has put in place will be held accountable for anything, comes as no surprise. From what I heard this morning the top kill was halted at some point yesterday, but supposedly they have the spill stopped. Obama's admin from what I understand has paused all exploratory drilling until at least 2011, figured we would see that coming. Also the Obama appointed Ken Salazar(interior secretary) has announced that all exploratory rigs in the gulf also be shut down.
c_lou
HMMMMM, NOBAMA might get his $10 a gallon gas after all.
redkneck
Well, I have no doubt the dems would like to shut down offshore drilling, but.... IF the blowout preventer is proven to be faulty, and there's reason to think there's others out there in the same condition, there's going to be some stoppage for sure, and for good reason. I guess time will tell, I just hope they get to the bottom of it soon, but fear it will drag out for a lot of months.
Orion_70
Getting the leak plugged is priority #1. It's the worst environmental catastrophe we haven't even begun to realize yet. There's so much oil out already, it's going to take decades for that environment to recover if ever. I used to go down all over South La. and hunt/fish. That's a truly unique ecosystem that I fear may be obliterated. So far it's dodged the heaviest amounts of oil, but it's the stuff we can't see that's still out there that can have the biggest impact. BP needs to be held accountable for every penny spent on this and everyone that's impacted. Hey, they made 6 billion the first quarter of 2010. I think they can afford it! Ashley
This whole oil spill is RIDICULOUS! The amount of oil getting into the ocean is unreal. BP doesn't seem to be moving too quickly on all of this, either. I really hope they stop this soon -- it's wrong that we're probably going to have to end up footing the bill for this one. Which administration enacted that law? (I'm asking because I don't know) Cleanup costs, I believe, are the sole responsibility of the company at fault. I'd bet that farm that in the long run BP will fight tooth and nail to minimalize their liability, and in doing so at least some cost will be passed to the consumer. According to some quick internet research, 25% of the worlds oil is consumed by Americans. That right there irritates me. I see Nissan is coming out with an all electric car in 2012, hopefully Ford will soon as well. For now I guess carpooling, hypermiling, eating local, and my woodstove are the most effective way I can protest. redkneck
Well, looks like the last attempt was unsuccessful after all, in contrast to initial reports. It's going to be horrible if they can't get something done and have to wait on the relief well to be finished in a couple of months.
