redkneck
My pfleuger from last year's father's day turned out to be a piece of crap. Anybody got one to suggest? Something in the $60-100 range is usually what I spend on reels.
Muleyman
I would not reccomend one to you. They are VERY easy to get tangled up and just arent convenient. You will spend more time untangling them then you will fishing. But Im sure they could get easy to use after you get the hang of it but you have to push down on the this and keep your thumb over the line and cast and let your thumb off the line to let string out then before the hook hits the water you have to put your thumb back over the line and if you dont do it at the PERFECT time, you will just have a mess. Whoa! I LOVE baitcasters and have fished with them all my life. Once you get used to one it's a piece of cake, and you won't turn back I've always owned ABU Garcias, more than I can count, but that's the problem, they don't make them like they used to. I've never owned a Quantam baitcaster, I may give one a try.
Dawg
Bass Pro Shops' Extreme line of bait casters are good. I've had one for several years now and it's still casting as smooth as the day I got it.
Alisha
I know you said up to $100 but hubby has this one that he bought this past winter and absolutely loves it! It casts really nice and is very smooth. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20331&id=0030195119426a&navCount=1&podId=0030195&parentId=cat20331&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IA&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true

redkneck
Once upon a time if it was a Garcia it was a fine product, but they went the way a lot of products I think. I'll take a look at the ones you guys posted. It's just a shame the Pfleuger actually only made it one fishing trip and a big ray stripped it when I went to backing the drag out. I wish I would have kept the receipt.

Just because you cant use them doesn't mean anybody else can! I been using them for over 30 years! Once set properly, they will work just fine!!! Anything Shimano. I like the Curado, I have four of them. But then its more than you want to spend.
92xj
this just popped up in an email today. Have no idea if it's worth it or not. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10216575____SearchResults?om_rid=Dp3yz8&om_mid=_BMBXOpB8K15s9P&
camoman1
I used to use Abu Garcia's on my musky rods......I have switched to Shimano now.
redkneck
That's a nice looking reel Ben. I definitely want to try something new. I haven't owned a Daiwa baitcaster in a long time. The Curado is definitely a bit more than I want to spend, I really don't fish as much as I used to. I just want something that's dependable enough to work when I need it to, and in a little salt water occasionally.
BrandonBowling21
I have a Bill Dance Quantum Baitcaster and its a medium heavy 7ft rod and it works awesome for bass fishing. It costs about $75 at Bass Pro Shops, but i put Spiderwire 30lb test on mine and use it for catfishing and bass fishing and it works amazing! I would definately recommend this rod and reel!!!! P.S-its a combo for around $75 bucks a BPS!! ~Brandon

LifeNRA
Hey I just thought I would put that out there. No problem! But you just can't come in and say that you will spend more time un-tangling them! Yeah, maybe first time users will have problems. We all do! Heck every now and then I still get a back-lash. Honestly, if your throwing anything over a 1/4 ounce, bait casters are the reel of choice, well, for me anyways!

suro25
you might want to check out Okuma bait casters I have had good luck with them
Ethan Givan
Abu Garcia or Shimano. Bait casters are good for catfishing, but I prefer a spinning reel for bass. I have an old Diawa that is atleast 15 years old and it still works fine.
paul23
How do you guys get them to cast any distance? I can't get them to throw a lure for anything. I tried 15 lb mono and 8 lb braid and neither would cast more than 20 yds. Tried throwing crankbaits and stickbaits. Friend has the same problem with his. I much prefer spinning reels as of now. Sounds like you need to adjust the brake on it. Youve got too much brake for the weight your casting and it wont cast very far. Thats the only thing I can think of that would cause a problem like that. I dont use a bait caster for any fishing other than for catfish. I prefer a spinning reel for bass because its easier to flip your lure or bait into cover.
