Rhino
I got a call from one of my closest friends this morning. He’s a grandfather now (congrats again Paw Paw) but he just had to call me and tell me this story about his son. His oldest son is a Marine and he's been stationed in Iraq since last summer. Shortly before he left he found out his wife was expecting and she has been staying with my friend ever since. His leave came up but he missed his flight while out on patrol with his company. He was told he would have to wait on another flight but he devised another solution to his problem. You know how those Marines learn to adapt and overcome. With permission from his superiors and using a lot of ingenuity he managed to catch a ride on a few different choppers, a few flights and made it home from Iraq for his leave going through Ireland, California and finally home (Lafayette, Louisiana) to see his new baby daughter. He left Iraq last Monday and arrived at home Saturday. Before he arrived word had gotten out to the press about this innovative Marine making his way home for the event. When he stepped off the plane there were about 100 people including the press cheering his arrival. Needless to say he was a bit shocked by the entourage there to greet him. Some of the reporters are still calling to get the miraculous story. He tells me it might even make national news. It’s already in several papers in south Louisiana. Knowing this young man for as long as I have I couldn’t help but laugh with my friend (Paw Paw) while he was telling me some of the things he did and went through getting home. This young man sure used his imagination and his persuasive skills and definitely adapted and overcame the challenge.

buckee
Re: Hitch Hike form Iraq! That's really cool. I hope the press leaves him alone with his wife and little one, after what he's been through. He certainly has earned it.

wtnhunt
Re: Hitch Hike form Iraq! That is great. Hope the media does not bother him too much though, surely he has better things to do with his time than deal with them.

archerjg
Re: Hitch Hike form Iraq! That is an interesting way to get back home. It is a shame that they won't let the guy alone to spend time with his child. Archerjg
