Ohiobucks
I'm looking into a Nikon SLR, narrowed it down to the D40 and the D3000. I know the D3000 has 4 more mega-pixel, but other than that, I can't tell a difference. Both are about the same price, and both come with an 18-55 lens. Any help would be appreciated. Chenango Dave
I shoot a Nikon D300 and I haven't really looked into the newer ones since I got that. A good place to compare the different models is at www.dpreview.com Thats where I did a bunch of research before I got my first DSLR. Good luck with whatever you decide. suro25
I shoot with a D90. when looking at regular images you will not notice much of a difference. But when you enlarge or zoom in on the image that is when you can tell the difference. But in my opinion you should consider D3000.
Ohiobucks
I'm thinking the D3000 is the way to go fo rme, entry level DSLR. Check this out, sounds like a pretty good deal, huh? http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-D3000-Digital-SLR-Camera-Body-4-Lens-Kit-NEW-/160382028504?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Digital_Cameras&hash=item2557838ad8
pointing_dogs_rule
I went with the D5000 last year and just love the camera. I believe that the only difference between the D3000 is the megapixels (12.5). It does take some time to learn all the ins and outs of the camera. Once you are used to the setting you will like the camera. Image quality and color just blow me away. I highly suggest the two lens package 18-55 and 55-200. I will post some photos soon & the package deal that you are looking at seems reasonable (not sure you will use all that stuff). NOTE: BUY AN EXTRA BATTERY!!!!!!!! THEY LAST FAIRLY LONG, HOWEVER, WHEN THE DIE, THEY DIE REALLY FAST. Good luck the dog

texastrophies
Looks like someone has been spending some time in San Antonio. Just ordered a D90 today. Should be in in about a week or so. I am tired of looking at other peoples pictures that are sharp and clear and mine are not. Hopefully it is the camera that has been the problem and not the finger pushing the button. WhitetailHunter20
I use a D40 and am very pleased with the results. You can enhance the image fairly good without losing the quality of the image. If there is a good price differance between the two I would go with the D40. ruttinbuc
It is all about the glass in many cases, Tom. Good lenses make all the difference in the world. Most kit lenses are fine, but not quite the best you can get.
