Dawg
Ok so actually they are in my laundry room. These are fire ants. There's not any food in the laundry room so I'm not sure why they are in there. My wife had a basket of clean clothes sitting on top of the deep freeze, and the ants were all in this basket. We have sprayed all around the base of the walls and all along the corners, but they seem to keep coming back. There aren't any in the kitchen which is right next to the laundry room, doesn't make sense. We also found some in the bathroom which is at the other end of the house. What could they possibly be after? What is an effective way to get rid of them?
cinch314
If it were me, i'd put some ortho fire ant killer or my personal favorite acephate all around the outside of your house and then get a spray and go along the inside or if they are really in your house that bad then fog it then spray it. JMO They could be in your walls too.
wtnhunt
What is an effective way to get rid of them? Burn em out. lol. Might check with your local coop and see what they have for fire ants. Used to use dursban, but not sure you can get it anymore and not so sure about using inside a house anyway. From what I have heard talstar is a good replacement for dursban, but I have not used it and again not sure about using that inside a home, but would use it outside. Permethrin based insecticides usually work fairly well, but don't think they are too effective on fire ants.
redkneck
I'll second the acephate..... good stuff! I don't think you can get dursban anymore either William.
Leo
Nope you definitely can't get dursban anymore. If you've got a real serious infestation it's worth calling an exterminator. They have access to the most powerful pesticides.
