Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Galaraga....in my mind you pitched a perfect game tonight!!! To bad it was "blown by a HORRIBLE call at first base for what should have been the FINAL OUT!!
rhine16
I saw the last out recorded but still haven't seen the replay. I hate it for Galaraga, but it's baseball. If that happened with 2 outs in the fourth, would anyone have noticed it??
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
I saw the last out recorded but still haven't seen the replay. I hate it for Galaraga, but it's baseball. If that happened with 2 outs in the fourth, would anyone have noticed it?? The thing is that he was out by at least 1/2 - 3/4 of a step, it wasn't even close....the ump even started to call him out then changed the call. rhine16
Just saw it in slow mow. Looked like he was out by 3/4 of a step. Galaraga's footwork was a little shifty... maybe he didn't think he got the foot down. Sad situation for sure.
Chrud
If that happened with 2 outs in the fourth, would anyone have noticed it?? Yes, if he would have been perfect the rest of the game. CC Sabathia had an instance like that a couple years ago with Milwaukee. He tried to bare-hand a ground ball and bobbled what should have been an easy out. Rather than giving CC an error, the gave the other guy a hit. CC was perfect the rest of the game, which was a one-hitter due to a controversial scoring decision. The TV announcers said because that would have been the first base-runner of the game, and it was getting late in the game, CC should have been given the benefit of the doubt and charged an error. That was a bad call last night. You've got to feel bad for everyone involved, including the umpire. He knew he made the wrong call, but it's too little, too late. gzilla45
The umpire was in the perfect position to make the call too so I'm not sure how he messed up. Granted the pitcher was moving his foot a little but it still wasn't close. I don't think they can but I'd like to see the MLB grant this kid a perfect game. Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
I doubt Jim Joyce got any sleep last night. I bet he felt worse that Galarraga did. Hats off to him for stepping up almost immediately and admitting he was wrong, I didn't see an interview but I just heard a sound clip on ESPN and from the sound of his voice he felt awful. I don't think they can but I'd like to see the MLB grant this kid a perfect game. Apparently they are deciding whether they should review it or not. Either way, if it does actually get overturned, it won't matter. The moment is gone. Yeah it will be in the record books as a perfect game, maybe with an asterisk next to it, but it isn't the same as being able to enjoy that moment as soon as it happens, both as a player and as a fan. I will say this, Joyce would earn a lot of respect back if he were to go to the commissioner and plead for it to be overturned.
rhine16
I'm seeing on ESPN now that it is in Selig's hands to overturn. I personally hope he doesn't because if he does, then where do you draw the line?

muggs
worst call ever...but hey, that infield single raised the Tribe's team batting average from .220 to .221...they're raking now!!!!!

camoman1
Do I smell instant replay and red challenge flags in baseballs future...??? haha! Pretty terrible call thats for sure!!!
buckbuster11
That's one of the most shocking calls I have ever seen. This kind of stuff happens all the time in almost every game though...this one just happened at the worst possible time you could think of. I give the ump credit for coming out and owning it at least...I bet a lot of umps wouldn't have done that.
rhine16
He's not going to overrule it. Good decision in my opinion. Galaraga knows he threw a perfect game... Heck, we all do. He just won't get credit for it in the record books.
AdvantageTimberLou
Sad deal indeed but sportsmanship came out of this. Everyone will remember #21 as the "The Perfect Game that Wasn't" Armando was pure class through it all, as was Joyce, to come out and apology, we learned a lot about these two men and their are lessons to be learned from all of this. BTW: Armando did get a new 2010 Chevrolet Convertible out it!
hunterbobb
Yea he was robbed but he is handling it like a man. He hasn't been complaining about the bad call. This guy has class and we need more professional athletis like him.
