FSU_Seminole
I just booked a hunt to Saskatchewan in May. You guys have no idea how excited I am about this hunt. Got a very reputable outfitter & I'll be hunting private land. Here are my 2 questions. 1. If you had a chance to shoot a 375 inch bull Elk or a 170 inch whitetail what would you shoot? Secondly how much does it cost to mount an Elk in the states? One around the 350-375 inch mark. The place I'm hunting has a healthy Elk herd. My first love are whitetails, but I may get a crack at an Elk as a second trophy. I know nothing of mounting Elk, I just know they are huge. Thanks. Rhino
1. If you had a chance to shoot a 375 inch bull Elk or a 170 inch whitetail what would you shoot? Whichever one showed up 1st!!! Both if I could though. As far as the groceries go...doesn't get much better than elk meat. Secondly how much does it cost to mount an Elk in the states? One around the 350-375 inch mark. The only time I mounted an elk (shoulder mount) was in 2001 and it cost $750 excluding shipping. Shipping it from New Mexico put the total cost over $1,000. I was visiting my taxidermist a little over a week ago and he happened to have someone's elk mount there waiting for the guy to pick it up. He charges $840 for a shoulder mount but said he was going to have to go up on his price this fall.
Prairiepredator
You will have a good time up here in Sask. The whitetail hunting in the northern areas can be awesome! I agree with rhino...I would shoot which ever one came in first. Not sure how much the mount would be though.

hunterbobb
That might well be the hardest question I've ever had to answer. I guess I would have to go for the Elk since I have only been able to hunt Elk once so far. The problem is I have no idea where I would mount a head that big. Then there is the problem of having to buy a new freezer for all the meat. Good luck on your hunt.I hope you score big. :gun2:
Jeramie
I would go with the whitetail first. Ive been chasing them all of my life and have that big trophy would be incredible. I want to hunt elk but never have so hunting a rag horn would also be great. Had I been chasing them forever I may have a different outlook. Shaun_300
I'd definitely take the 170" whitetail over the elk. Good luck on your hunt!
mikebohio
I would cut off bodyparts for a 170 whitetail !
Stone Cold
I say whitetail also!
dbHunterNY
i think which ever one you've got a better opportunity on getting, because neither one is around every other tree or bush.
