Goinghuntin
Got a new addition to the family today Brand-spankin' new CVA Optima, beautiful stainless barrel. I can't wait to get out and start shooting it, but I think that will have to wait a week or two :jaw: Nathan

dbHunterNY
Nice. Are you going to put a scope or sling on it? Thought about what you're going to try first to work up a load? I got my first ML last year and it's awesome shooting it. It's as fun as anything else I have to shoot. Then I clean every inch of it and vow I'm never shooting it again. Then after a short while I get an itch to shoot it again, so I do.

What do you think a good size is? And I'll put a nice sling on it too, my local Gander Mountain has a nice selection. Nathan
FrontierGander
alright! Got to love the new Optima's. Mine shoots 100gr Blackhorn209 with the 245gr powerbelt like a monkey on a cupcake. 100 yards,
hunterbobb
Ain't it great getting a new toy. Having to wait two weeks to shoot it is pure **** though. What ever scope you decide on make sure it is desighned for muzzel loaders. Regular rifle scopes don't always hold up so well on a muzzel loader. Regular rifle scopes don't always hold up so well on a muzzel loader. Thanks. My local Gander Mountain has quite an array of scopes so I'll look there first. And FrontierGander, what scope do you have on your Optima? Nathan
FrontierGander
in that picture, it was just a cheapie bushnell that came with a 30-06 we had bought many years ago. One of those combo deals. I now use a bushnell sportsman 3-9x32
Grady269
Scope Bass Pro has the Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9 for $199. I think it is hands down the best scope you can buy for under $200. I own 2 of them and recommend them highly. The rainguard is really works and it seems to rain at least 80% of muzzle loader season in my neighborhood. Low light is excellent and you would have to spend a lot to do appreciably better. I will never buy another Luopold VX-II again after using the Bushnell 3200. The VX-III well that's a little different.
FrontierGander
i got a Konus Pro 3-10x44 scope thursday and mounted it on the Optima. It has the 30-30 cross hair and is very fine. This is a nice scope and runs about $130 at OpticPlanet. One thing that i really like is that the scope has a recoil pad at the rear of the eye piece! Tecumseh
Nice looking gun! I think I have more fun shooting my muzzleloader than anything else I own.Blackhorn 209 is the goods in my gun.

It's a 3-9x40mm with a 250 yard reticle for muzzleloaders. If Bushnell has something like that then I'd recommend that or something with mil-dots. Holding over just isn't as easy and at most feasible muzzleloader ranges 9x is all you need. Oh yea... you maybe want to look into Blackhorn 209 before you buy powder. I've heard good things about it. Less corrosive. Edited June 12, 2010 by dbHunterNY

Goinghuntin
Thanks guys Did you have to remove the rear sight on your Optima when you put the Konus scope on FrontierGander? I read in the owners manual that it might have to come off in certain applications and it didn't look like in your picture that it was still on. FrontierGander
yeah i did remove the sights and then called cva for the open sight filler screws. They will send them to you for free, just make sure they know which screws you need, ask for Dave.
