About to head out to cook 500lbs of crawfish and smoke a hundred chicken halves for a little FD fund raiser. I hope they sell good, it's just a little town of 250 folks but we usually get good support from the community. At least I dont have to worry about cooking tonight ;)

You guys up north get to eat them much?

Little communities like that are often the most supportive because everybody knows everybody :) My brothers caught some craw-daddy's last year and boiled and ate them but I don't think I ever ate them. I would like to eat a pot full of them, I sure love shrimp :jaw:

A little late in the year for crawfish John. I heard a lot of crawfish farmers started pulling their traps a couple of weeks ago. I have a friend in SW LA that has some crawfish ponds. He's near the top of the list to take turkey hunting. Boiled them twice this year at the camp. Once during turkey season and then again last weekend. Great stuff!!! I'm usually good for about 8 pounds. ;)

Two weekends ago, I had a guy from work ask me to come over for some crawfish here in Washington. He had 450 lbs of them hanging out in his 5 kiddie pools. it made for a good weekend.

Thanks for all the well-wishes folks. It didnt go so hot :( We had two pavillions set up (canopies) when a super-cell came and wiped us off the map. We had 6 grown men hanging onto the frame and literally got tossed around in a 60 mph wind and then a terrible rain. We had to pack up and move into the fire dept and away from our little primo intersection. We ended up basically selling 48 quart ice chests full for below cost, but all in all we'll make at least $500, which was not really a good fund raiser, is still money we did not have at the start of the day. The government will throw thousands at you for grants for equipment, but you end up short of money to fuel up a truck, lol.

Every year...Only once a year though. We have a annual outing that some of our IBEW brothers come up from Weee see anna:D and bring 300lbs of crawfish to the outing. Cooked Cajun style. I think my lips are still burning from the twist, suck and eat rythhm.

Bummer about the thunderhead John. Sounds like you probably pulled a lot of heads and put them away for another day too.

Nope we got rid of all of them, I was glad to see the last 2 coolers sell for $150 (100 lbs of crawfish). I ate enough to last me till next season :D

But not in the numbers to make it worth while. At least not near me. They don't get very large either.

Yeah, I think its a south/ midwest thing. Its nothing to catch a couple hundred in the creeks around here. They get as large as the ones you buy in stores too.

I actually have mounds in my fields (water table is very shallow) and they crawl out at night. Thats pretty typical in parts of Oklahoma. Its nothing to see them on sidewalks, drives, etc. places where the water table is shallow.

Wow! It would take 6 months to catch a couple hundred :jaw:

I'm not sure our northern crawfish taste the same either.
