Back in the late 70's and early 80's, boat racing was a very popular event around here. Guys used to take old used fishing boats that were no longer used, cut them down and put a big motor in them and race them.

Some guys are starting to get this going again. One of them is my brother and his friend ( they had a boat back in the 80's ). This boat was built back in 1949. It was used for fishing and then a guy had it for racing. My brother and his friend got ahold of it last summer and did alot of work to it to get it back in racing shape. They put the motor in last week ( a 71' Corvette engine with around 400 horsepower ) and this morning they lauched her and tried her out for the first time. Top speed was 47 mph ( I had a ride, it's awesome :) ).

The first boat race is this Sunday..... there must have been 50 people on the wharf this morning watching. By the way ......... the name of the boat is Turtle .... hence the turtle on the bow :D

nice skip jack LOL i know the speed of another boat for the race and lets say its gonna be close

not a skip jack Justin, she has a full keel, it had a house and all on it and was used for handlining a few years ago, Craig and Micheal cut her down, stripped all the wood and planks our of her last summer, then put a few more layers of fiberglass over her.

They will be in a different class than herbie badger and clay ;)............ there are a few more getting ready to go in the fishing boat class.
