Ethan Givan
There is a guy that lives down the road from me that has a slug barrel he bought for his Remington 870. I turkey hunt on the farm behind his house and I was talking to him one day and he saw that I had a 12 ga. Rem 870. He told me he never used this slug barrel and that he would sell it to me for $50. My question is, will this barrel fit my gun? Im pretty sure my gun is several years newer than his so I didnt know if the barrel would fit my gun. I would like to know before I go over there if it will work.
lil hunter
As long as the barrel is also a 12 gauge, it will fit. The only thing you'll have to check is the size shell the barrel is made for. It may ony be made for a 2 3/4" shell whereas your reciever is probably 3". That's no big deal, you'll just have to stick with 2 3/4" slugs. Edited June 13, 2010 by lil hunter

If it were me. I would check to see if it's a smooth bore. If it is I would pass on it. There are way too many great slugs out there that you cannot shoot though a smooth bore. A smooth bore would limit you to a few types of pumpkin chuckin' slugs, you won't be able to shoot the more effective sabot slugs.

hunterbobb
One thing you are not clear on is, do you plan on using it to shoot slugs for deer hunting or where you planning on turkey hunting with it. If you were using it with slugs it will work on your gun. As stated above the smooth bore version, Which this almost certainly is for that price, isn't the best choice for slugs. However, it is a huge improvement over your regular bird barrel. If you where hoping to use it for turkey, don't!!!!!!! The choke on the barrel is probably improved cylinder. That is way to open to be shooting turkey loads. Finally though, if it's in good shape you can't beat that price. If Jesse backs out I'll pay you $50 plus shipping for the barrel. Definitely for deer hunting. Ive never heard of anyone using a slug barrel for turkey. The barrel on my 870 now with a turkey choke does just fine on the birds. The reason I wanted a slug barrel was for hunting the thick creek bottoms behind my farm. A slug gun is more suited to it than my .308.
