Guest TennesseeTurkey
My papaw had a JD Tractor it had a longer front axle, propane tank on the front without a roof thingy over it. Is that type of tractor any certain model or is it pretty common to have those specs... Im trying to find a picture of one like that but no luck. Guest TennesseeTurkey
Longer front axle, propane tank and no roof thingy..............sorry Will, not sure. I havent seen one pic of one with a propane tank on the front, I know that that description is a little broad but I have no clue about tractors... It looks like this but with fenders over the back tires and a propane tank on the front... http://www.tuckwelltoys.co.uk/images/mce15890x000_(2).jpg
redkneck
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2447/3735907914_b2d7b1ea4d.jpg Something like that? I have actually never seen an LP tractor that I can remember.
Bowtech_archer07
Ya, the only stock LP tractor I have ever seen was a Minneapolis Moline tractor.. I know some guys run Deere's or International's with LP in a pulling tractor, but never stock.. That definitely sounds like a one of a kind tractor Will. Goinghuntin
LP tractors used to be fairly common back in the 40's and 50's, though they were underpowered when compared to a gasoline engine of the same displacement. This is what the typical John Deere LP tractor looked like: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3250/2699765266_772b81fb6e.jpg?v=0 That was a JD model 70. Here is a John Deere 4010: http://www.burrells.net/burrell/images/tractors/63_4010_LP_158_LOADER_$8500.JPG If you could remember the model number that would really help. Guest TennesseeTurkey
Spoke with my cousin and he said that the tractor had the two wheels close together and my papaw bought the longer front axle and added the propane tank himself.... I bet I wont find a picture of one like that unless its THE one itself...
Tominator
Propane was pretty common back in the day like goinghuntin said. Longer axles in the front were used more around the farm yard than in the field. The narrow axles were called "row crops," and were used in the fields more. Give us the model number, or look at the serial number plate and it will tell you a lot. There's tons of antique tractor sites on the net. Guest TennesseeTurkey
Model 420, when he got it it was the tricycle type, but like I said he got a longer axle for it and added the propane tank himself.
