mikebohio
got some great trail cam pics of my brothers brother in law and his girlfriend destroying my one month old food plot with four wheelers. dont know what to do. he gave me exclusive permission to hunt but his wife lets her brother ride. he knows where my cams and plots are and says he would stay away from them but pictures dont lie. redkneck
Nothing to do but talk to them about it. You're at a disadvantage since you don't own the land, but you can't invest your time and money into something to let someone else tear up. Did they intentionally mess it up (cutting donuts) or just ride through it?
92xj
I would walk up to him like a grown man, ask him to talk, and figure out a solution. You are both on someone else's property and both have permission to be there but do different things. Maybe he gets mad at you for hunting when he wants to ride. Either way, man up and have an adult conversation to try and figure out a solution.
mikebohio
continuosly rode through it. it wasnt intentional but the brother in law knows where its at the people he rides with dont seem to care. riding through it wouldnt be such a big deal but its been extremely wet and it tore it up pretty bad. this is the only private property i have to hunt. i dont want to cause any friction ive been chasing what would be my buck of a lifetime there for three years close but no cigar. way too much invested to pull up stakes. by the way sister in law hates hunting but tolerates it because she likes me and i sold her on qdm
92xj
ok, so I would still talk to him like an adult and come to a conclusion.
WIwhitetailhunter
Maybe just a freindly reminder that he's been riding over your foodplot that you've spent time working on. He may not even given it a thought. You know how it is when you're having fun. Unfortunatly, you'll have to walk a fine line. Make too much of an issue out of things and you may very well be looking for someplace else to go. I'm sure if you talk, you guys can come up with a compromising solution. Perhaps you can mark off a "path" through the plot for the riders.
mikebohio
just called brother in law said he told them not to ride there gonna help me fix damage if we rope off trails in and out will it adversely affect deer movement?
WIwhitetailhunter
If you mark a trail through the plot like the mark snowmobile trails here in WI, you shouldn't have a problem with deer movement. A 4X4 wooden stake or a metal fence post with some kind of marker on it spaced out along the boundry of the trail would work just fine. 92xj
just called brother in law said he told them not to ride there gonna help me fix damage if we rope off trails in and out will it adversely affect deer movement? Let me try and fix this and you tell me if this is what you were trying to say, "I just called my brother in law. He told me that he told them not to ride on my food plots any more. The riders are going to help me fix the food plots that were damaged. If we rope off trails that cut through the food plots, so the riders do not ride over the entire food plot but just down the center or side, will it affect the deer movement?" If this is correct, I would tell them not to worry about helping you. No need to get them out there working and huffing and puffing around to help you fix your plot. I understand the principle of why you would want them to help, but there could be a negative side to them feeling like they have to help. They for one could go to the wife and complain. And we all know in the end, the wife will always win in an arguement because she has what every man wants. I would just thank them for the offer of helping and ask them nicely if you made a road bed or track down the center of the plot so someone could drive through it, if they would just stay on it and not get into the growing plot. I would not rope anything off. If these people can not follow simple instructions or have enough respect to follow the "rules" of riding in one area to get across the plot, a rope isn't going to do much. But if you do put up rope, you will see different deer activity for a day or two and thats it.

redkneck
Looks like the average idiots you see anywhere that can't tell someone's hard work from a trail grown up with briars. They probably meant no harm. Moral of the story, don't ever get a brother in law. I have one if you need another I still get a kick out of this!
