SneakyPete
Can anyone tell me on the Walk in Hunting Access (2009) maps that the Kansas Department of game has online, how do you find out more about the Units? I see one that is labeleb 116...but I cannot see any street addresses or anything. In Kansas do you have to let the owner know you plan on hunting their land or just show up n hunt? Thanks in advance.
ruttinbuc
Finding some of those areas is like finding a needle in a haystack. There are very few paved roads away from the towns. Use google earth and try to zero in on the areas you have in mind. You could call the Kansas Wildlife and Parks and ask to speak to someone about that area also. You just show up and hunt the WIHA's. I went to kansas this spring turkey hunting. You will want to spend a day with the wiha book and try to find some of the places.I found a county line road and started to count the little lines on the map. Each line was a road[some roads are like cow paths] You can find the hunting places but it does take some time.Good luck!I saw lots of deer on the wiha that I was turkey hunting on.I even found a shed. SneakyPete
thanks guys! I have been scouring google earth but like you said har to tell sometimes what a road is or isn't lol. In your experience is the WIHA usually marked with a easy to see sign?

In your experience is the WIHA usually marked with a easy to see sign? Yes, they are marked fairly well. You won't see a lot of posters on private land which in turn makes the WIHA signs stand out. You need to be aware that there are different dates for hunting them involved. The opening dates are different. Some run from Sept while others run from Nov. On the maps every color means something. The date colors are very close so it is easy to get them confused. Also it is important to know if the lands open in 2009 will be available to hunt in 2010. I think the new atlas comes out in late August. Most federal and state land should remain the same.
SneakyPete
thanks ruttinbuc, I called the Dept of Wildlife there, maps won't be ready till Sept this year...so hopefully I can get one by November. think I'll take a ground blind and a decoy....not sure if I'll get any trees for a climber to be effective in....
