Slugger
Does anyone have any recommendations for a good privacy tree. I want something that will stay green all year long and keep me from seeing my neighbors. I will probably plant a row all along my property line. I've been looking online and have found a ton of different types of evergreens and holly trees and cant really deciede. any suggestions. Ravin R10 man
Cedar is good and fragant too. Spruce will do the job as well as Balsam..these will give cover all year from the ground up. There are also some shrubs that will do this if you do not want the trees to get big and take up alot of space.Check out this site..the three to the left are what Im thinking.. http://www.make-my-own-house.com/images/treesamples.jpg Red Pine, White Pine, and Jack Pine, will eventually grow tall and not have any cover close to the ground after 20 years or so Edited June 24, 2010 by Mathews XT Man
AaronS
I would think most any evergreen will work (white pine, red cedar, spruces, other pines). Plant 2 or 3 rows with the trees in each row offset to the trees in the other rows for the best effect.
huntinsonovagun
Leyland cypress, arborvitae (be careful of the variety, some can get ginormous), foster holly, oakleaf holly, nellie r. stevens holly. Spruce should work up in your area. Deodor cedars are really cool looking. And junipers will always work...they're a weed around here. The hollies and leyland cypress will work in shade or sun, the others need full sun. What I normally do for screening purposes is NOT a straight line of trees. I will generally mix 2 species of trees (sometimes 3) and place them naturally, so it doesn't look so stupid. JMO

Strut10
I would go with a couple rows. Your spruces will hold their lower limbs for many years. Norways will grow the fastest. Colorado Blues will stay densest. I'd plant a row of each...............probably about 10-15 feet between the rows. For faster privacy yet, plant a 3rd row of Cannan Fir. Plant them 5-6 feet apart within the row.
