Rem308
> > > > > > > > > > > I recently swapped the factory stock on my Remington 700 SPS-Varmint (chambered in .308) with a Hogue Over-molded stock. The swap was simple enough and today I made it out to he range for a bit to see how I liked the change. First off, I really like the looks of the new stock. Today's weather was 92 degrees and in my ignorance, I ran off and forgot my sandbags at the house. So I used my range bag and a shirt as a rest. To my surprise the rifle really grouped well at 100 yards with Federal PowerShock 150 gr Pointed Soft Point ammo. This was my best pattern of the day, which was actually the second series of 3 shots that I took. Another pretty close one. The rest of the groups were similiar to this one, two really close and sometimes the third would trail a little. Under the conditions, I'm very pleased with this. The stock also just felt better to me, instead of the plastic there was a grip to the Hogue stock which made for a more comfortable position. The factory stock also shot really well, I can't wait to see how this rifle does on sandbags and low wind. ** Disregard the Black-and-white photos, I was playing with settings on my camera and didn't realize till I got home. doubleA
That's some darn good shooting. You just have to hate the hot weather we have been getting. My SPS V shot great out of the box with the factory stock. It did however change POI suddenly. I put a Accuracy International AICS on it and havent looked back. Keep up the good shooting! Doc
Was there any other performance changes that you noticed with the new stock or was it primarily cosmetic preference. In other words, how did it shoot before and was there any functional changes due to the stock change? Doc

Doc The gun shot really well before the stock change, several really good patterns...today was the first time shooting with the new stock and I forgot my sandbags, so my rest wasn't very good. I will know a lot more when I go back and remember my sandbags and really buckle down. The overall feel to the gun is much better though, the angle of the grip for my shooting hand is much better and made for a more enjoyable session. toddyboman
Great shooting!!! :gunsmilie: Doc said: Was there any other performance changes that you noticed with the new stock or was it primarily cosmetic preference. Doc I can't speak for the hogue stock but there is a BIG difference in the hs precision stock and the normal sps stock and changing that stock should change the performace of the gun......It has for us. BUT the hs precisions stock has the aluminum bedding in it so thats the reason for the performance change. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp;jsessionid=1KM4UXBO0DA25LAQBBJSCNVMCAEFIIWE?id=0005395210482a&type=product&cmCat=froogle&cm_ven=data_feed&cm_cat=froogle&cm_pla=1240902&cm_ite=0005395210482a&_requestid=137156
Rem308
Yesterday evening, after work, I went out to the range and took a few guns. I took this .308 again and this time had my sand bags with me. It was about 93 degrees, but no wind, so I was able to shoot off of a very steady base. At 100 yards, I had some of my tightest patterns yet. Here are two of the best, which are with factory Federal ammo. (Upside down, but you still see the pattern)
