texastrophies
Just received my new Nikon D90 and know absolutely nothing about it. Anybody got any shortcuts they can give me for getting started? I hate reading directions, but unless I can get some help, I may have to with this one. woolybear
Congrats on the new cam! Read the directions, lol. Seriously, I was in the same boat when I got my new DSLR......clueless. :stupid:I still am. Actually getting a bit more farmiliar with it just because I shoot it every day. I pick Chenengo Daves brain from time to time and post my crappy pics for him to critique for me. He has no problem telling me exactly what I did wrong. I also joined a photography forum to get some pointers and to let other helpfull members critique my shots. Again....no problems with them telling me exactly where I went wrong giving me something to work on for my next shoot. It's not too hard for me to get the critters to fill my lens but it sure is annoying when they do and I muff a series of shots. Guess after seeing some fantastic wildlife photos, kinda makes you want to do the same but there's quite a big difference between taking a great picture with all the basics in check, and just taking point and shoot snapshots. The button on my cam that gets the most use is my "Delete" button. I'm trying to change that. Good luck and as I've been told over and over...practice, practice, practice. pointing_dogs_rule
My D5000 came with a video. It was very helpful. If nothing more just play around with the camera and take lots of shots. No film to waste. good luck to all the dog
Shaun_300
The best thing to do Jeff is just play around with it, like stated there's no film so snap away and experiment with the settings. I usually use the auto setting on mine for average pics. If I want to take a pic of a sunset, or the moon or something like that I'll use different settings and play around with shutter speed, ISO, etc.
ILSNIPER1
Congratulations on the new setup. First things first, READ YOU'RE OWNERS MANUAL. http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/noprint/D90_ennoprint.pdf I'm Shooting w/a Canon T1i/500D & I picked up David D. Busch Guide To Digital SLR Photography (Canon EOS Rebel T1i/500D) It explains in far more detail what each setting does & how to use it. http://www.amazon.com/David-Buschs-Nikon-Digital-Photography/dp/1598639056/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1277928518&sr=8-1 Second: I would pick up a fast card.. I'm using a Sandisk Extreme III 30MB/s Edition Class 6 SDHC, you'll notice a big difference in read, right & upload time's! Here are some links that I found useful.
