keegan
Hello, I'm an Illinois resident and my father and I routinely go to South Dakota to pheasant hunt. My dad wants to take his Mossberg 500 20 gauge instead of his 12. My question is will the 20 have enough power to knock down and harvest a pheasant? He hits clays well, but busting a clay is much different than dropping a pheasant. I would appreciate any information on opinions and load recommendations. Prairiepredator
I think a 20 gauge will do just fine.
Missed160
I love shooting a 20 for pheasants. The only difference is pattern density, so be a bit more selective on the longer shots & he will do just fine..
birdhunter39
i use the Mossberg 500 12 , 20 GA. for both wild and pen raised pheasants .
MUDRUNNER
I made many a trip to South dakota with a buddy who shot a 20 gauge side by side, and he did pretty darn good. What part of S.D. do you hunt in? We go around Woonsocket, which is about 30 miles from Mitchell.

Texan_Til_I_Die
That's all I ever use for pheasants. Winchester 101 O/U in 20 gauge choked Mod and Full with Remington Express high brass in #6 shot. Absolutely deadly.

Dakota
I'd recommend Kent Fastlead 3" #4s if you're shooting a 20...and this is coming from a South Dakota resident who has shot a 20 for pheasants. Dakota
