Rhino
I broke down and bought a Poaris Ranger EV the other day. Over the years I've gone though my share of other electric powered off road vehicles. You name them & either I've owned them or my hunting buddies have. Yep...Bad Boy, Stealth, Ruff&Tuff, and other modified carts. IMHO they all have the same flaw. They are ALL basically golf carts modified for off road use. They have strengths and weaknesses between them but after owning 4 of them myself and close to another couple of dozen by other hunting buddies, IMO non were really designed to take the pounding of off road use even from conservative operators. So...when Polaris decided a couple of years ago or so to take a UTV designed for off road and power it with an electric motor I took interest. Now with some time in the field I hope Polaris has worked any bugs out. I know 3 hunters that own them. All speak highly of their performance and reliability. I hope this is the last electric UTV I'll have for a while. Looking forward to putting it to work now...especially next spring turkey season! Rhino
Sounds nice Al, but you know the saying, "this thread is useless without pics". jk bud. lol.:D:D At your service!!! Exterior I elected to go with just the roof & windshield. They offer a full cab if you want it. Windshield is glass (not plexiglass) so no concerns about scratches. Glass can be removed with 4 bolts during the warm, dusty times. Roof and rest of windshield frame is metal. Roof has dampening material to eliminate noise concerns. I also added the optional brushguard. Dashboard...4 switches in the middle of the dash. Bottom right is AWD system switch. 3 positions...bottom is single rear wheel drive...middle is positraction rear wheel drive...top is all 4 wheels pulling so it's true AWD. Top right is 3 speed switch...bottom for low speed & towing...middle for mid range speeds and max range distance...top for high speed driving up to 25 mph. Left switches are forward/reverse & lights 30 HP Motor (48v AC High Efficiency) under dump box. The Ranger EV is powered by 8 12v batteries using a coverter for 48v. Advertized range is 50 miles. Batteries supposed to be good for 5 years. All other electric carts are 48v DC usually using 6 8v batteries. The extended range batteries in other carts (also 50 mile rating) are twice the size (in depth) as regular batteries and real expensive to replace. That ought to be enough pics William. Waiting on the paint to dry completely on my gun/bow rack (repainted yesterday) before I mount it. May look around for a rearview mirror to mount too. Rhino
Thanks...got my gun/bow rack on it now...also mounted a rearview mirror. Next option on my list is a rear rack with a Z bar that fits in the EV's 2" receiver to make it easier to load a deer and just use the back box for hunting gear, etc.
