ckrich
A while back I posted a thread asking you guys opinion on buying a new bow. I ended up getting a used Alphamax 32 a couple weeks ago and I've shot it a few times, but just haven't found the time to take it to the shop and get my stuff put on. Well I finally had some down time the other day and was about to head down to the shop, and when I pulled the bow out of the case I checked the string out of habit. I noticed a ton of excess wax just below the cable guide(something I failed to notice earlier) and when I ran my finger over it three strands popped loose. I'm glad I found the problem before it became a disaster, but after not having a bow or being able to shoot for a couple months, waiting another 2 weeks for the string to get here is going to drive me nuts!!!! Oh well, at least it didn't happen the week before the season starts...
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Sounds you got lucky and caught it while just looking at it rather than having it blow up in your face when shooting. I love that alphamax, my cousin has one, darn nice bow. Good luck with the bow and the new string....what kind of string did you get? Rhino
A new string is the first order of business with a used bow..make sure the shop tunes it too Ditto...Strings don't last forever and with used bows you never know how old the string is. hutchies
Strings really aren't a big deal. A good shop will have you up and going in a couple days.
ckrich
Yeah I know, I should have planned on replacing it right away. The rest of the string looks great, but after looking it over some more I realized that the previous owner had served his drop away rest cord too high in the cable. This caused the serving to rub against the other cable where they cross. Oh well, lesson learned. After seeing one on my buddy's bow and how well it has performed, I ordered a Bucknasty string. Hard to pass up for the quality and price.

ckrich
Finally got it set up!Bucknasty delivers! John said I should get my string this weekend, and sure enough it came in the mail on Saturday. I headed right down to the shop and had it put on. I swear it's quieter and has less vibration now.
