PAbowhunter4life
Trophy Taker Shaky Hunter Long Bar Rest............ O.k., I just recently purchased a Mathews that came equipped with the rest I mentioned in the title. Now, I notice that when I tug on the string that raises the rest and let it go, the rest makes a very loud noise when springing forward. I have not had a chance to shoot the bow yet and I was just wondering if it was normal or if it does not do it when shot. Also, I like the way the string gets pulled down away from the arrow so it can't contact the vanes, but I am not sure I am 100% sold on having a string control such a vital part of my set up. Anyone ever have one break in mid draw, while getting snagged on a bush, etc.? I know it's a quality rest, but I am a firm believer in simplicity, and with the string attached, I just feel that there is too much that could go wrong. So I need some opinions to ease my mind!! GWSmith
Re: Trophy Taker Shaky Hunter Long Bar Rest........... I have been reading alot about what you have just mentioned on other forums. Its a problem that the manufacturer says you cant hear when firing the bow....(that I'll see about). The articles say that an adjustment moving the tongue of the rest forward so that the tongue falls on the riser shelf is whats needed. Along with using fleece to cover the underside of the rest and the riser shelf as well. Some people mention that they have used the thin strips sold by SVL for the front of the bow grip area and that works well for them. Others have stated that the fleece is very hard to keep in place on the underside of the arm of the rest. Evidently from what I have read they are saying that the noise comes from the rest's arm contacting the built-in stop area. The adjustment moving the rest forward keeps this from happening so it is eliminated as a problem.
mainebuck
Re: Trophy Taker Shaky Hunter Long Bar Rest........... mine makes the same noise if you manually raise the launcher and drop it. It does not make the noise when you shoot the bow. I was a little skeptical at first as well, but it's a solid little rest. Once you get it tuned in your all set. One thing to remember... If you paper tune and have to move your rest up or down, make sure you adjust the length of the cord that raises the arm as well. I tuned mine and moved the rest probably 1/16" down and did not re-tie and tighten the cord and needless to say I lost an arrow due to it not shooting right. AJ
Re: Trophy Taker Shaky Hunter Long Bar Rest........... I tried a piece of moleskin and that did little to deaden the sound. I ended up geting some weather stripping and putting a thin piece of weather stripping on the shelf of my bow. The forks land on the foam and its a lot quieter now. I would equate the noise to a TM hunter flipping back to the original position or slightly less. As far as breaking the cord while shooting, if you can break that cord while drawing, you are a MAN! If its set up properly, there are no problems. I put them on my hunting bows and love them.
