birdhunter39
my sisters 2004 cavalier is going through oil like crazy almost a quart a day the car has around 105,000 miles and uses 5 w 30 weight oil . just had a oil change last month and thats when she started going through the oil was right after the oil change . the air filter is good , i don't see any visible leaks . and know when she takes off she's blowing white smoke through the exhaust. birdhunter39
update the exhaust is blowing out blue then black smoke , and now it's idling kinda rough and while driving it tries to stall out , the oil dip stick showed that there was a little too much oil , so i drained some out , i wiped down the oil dip stick clean and it showed that no oil was removed . Shaun_300
Is there a check engine light on or anything? Those Ecotec motors are pretty much bullet proof. I've only had one apart in my career and have seen no others apart. So it just stated going through the oil after the oil change? That's weird, if there's no oil leaks. Blue smoke means burning oil, black smoke is over-fueling, white is burning antifreeze, Before going any further, I'd change the oil again, new filter and oil, make sure it's right on the full mark on the dipstick and go from there. They may have put the wrong oil in it.
birdhunter39
No lights have popped on,drives 250 miles a week, has a sealed trans, and a sealed radiator. It died out for the first time today it didn't do it before, but it did start right back up.It drove fine yesterday. But after adding oil(thru out the past month used different brands)A little too much oil it started with the smoke. birdhunter39
the smoke seems to go away some after acceleration , the exhaust puffs out ( best way to describe it ) instead of flowing out . and the acceleration is slow on take off . birdhunter39
a new new update took the car in for the oil change ,and they showed me that the oil filter ( in my case a oil canister ) was not replaced on the last oil change . but the car needs a tune up they said , then we took it to auto zone and did the engine code check which confirms that the engine needs a tune up . today the engine light finally went on . thanks shaun
Shaun_300
Glad you got it figured out. I'd change the fuel filter and spark plugs. That's about all you can do to those Ecotecs. Cheap tune up. Well the plugs are about $15 each.
