Gator
With all the different types of oil out there, is any one better than the other? I know everyone has personnel preference, but in this day and age, I just wonder....
ildrhntr
I use John Deere oil mainly because they deliver in bulk to the farm.
Mach1
I use Ford Motorcraft in my F150.
okiedog
Just put a really good filter on and dump beach sand in that new truck.. plenty of good oil there:yes:
Shaun_300
I personally don't think there's a lot of difference, synthetic is obviously better since it sticks to engine components when the engine is shut off rather than it running off them and causing a no oil condition for a split second on start up. GM always runs the Mobil 1 synthetic in the Northstar Cadillac engines and LS1-LS9.
redkneck
I buy whatever's on sale! There's not any difference IMO. Not talking about synthetics here, and I don't get no-name brands, though I have bought Wally-World oil quite a few times. Also think that 3k oil change is a crock, unless you got extreme driving habits.
Adjam5
OK I have used Mobil 1 from the get go(new) with two vehicles and outside of it not leaving sludge on the heads and valves...I saw no difference. I did 5K oil changes with the Mobil1 and my 01 Saturn started burning oil at 80K. The added protection the synthetic provided was not visible to me or worth it. Maybe in performance motors like the Vette or North Star engines. I am a firm believer in: if you stay on your oil, use a good filter(prime it with oil before installing it), don't push the oil beyond the 3-4500k mark and the motor will serve you well in the compression dept. Wally World oil is fine, so is Pennzoil and Quaker State. Whatever is on sale. But in my dirt bikes and 4 wheelers I use Castrol GTX. I buy filters in bulk on E Bay for all my vehicles. We recycle the oil and filters here in my town. So that makes it easy to do your own.
redkneck
Oh yeah, for my wife's car I only use BMW oil or Castrol 0w-30 hp synthetic european formula (yeah, it's a mouthful). I stand by my previous post about cheap oil, but some crap costs too much not to put the best in there, lol.
Goinghuntin
I always use the Wal-Mart Supertech oil and oil filter, I've never gone wrong with them. Same goes for tranny fluid and engine coolant. They're just as good as anyone else I'm pretty sure. Nathan
wtnhunt
Durango gets castrol 5w-20, 7 quarts of it. My truck usually gets whatever happens to be the cheapest, usually quaker state.
Gator
Interesting thoughts that's for sure. My concern also is changing brands if that will have an effect as well. My last truck I used havoline for a long time, then went to Valvoline High Mileage. The new one, Idon't know, probably Valvoline or Castrol
Ethan Givan
We use Pennzoil here for everything. The cars, trucks, van, tractors, and even the lawn mower. We have never had any problems.
