m gardner
We will be looking for a new church. It's been getting difficult since the illegal immigration problem here has come to a head. The pastor is white and his wife is hispanic and there are many hispanics in the congregation and they think we should help the new "immigrants". The last straw for many of us was July 4th when the pastor encouraged us to celebrate "independence from sin" instead of our independence as a nation under God (probably because many in the congregation never became Americans and loved this country). Have any of your churches decided to take a similar course? Mark
turningcustomcalls
I've never been a part of a church split because people didn't want hispanics in there church, but have seen it due to african-american's. Honestly, I think it's ridiculous and people will answer to God one day for it. As a Christian, it is our job to make and disciple CHRISTIANS. Not American's or white only Christian's. The gospel of Jesus Christ is for everyone. All people need a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, reguardless of there skin color. Now if the pastor is pushing an agenda, that's one thing. Or if he's doing something illegally, then an argument can be made to go elsewhere. But, if he's reaching hispanic people with the gospel and there coming to church, then that's a GOOD THING. I would suspect people probably have the attitude along the lines, "We don't want THOSE people in OUR church". If it's THERE church, I wouldn't want to attend there anyway. If you look at the history of this country, our founding document says that "all men were created equal, that they are endowed by there Creator, with certain unalienable rights". I think we forget that God could allow any of us to be born in a little village in mexico, on a hillside in afgahanastan, or the sand of iraq. But he didn't. He allowed us to be born in the greatest nation to ever exist and instead of puffing our chest with pride because we're American's, we ought be humbled to our knees and thank God for how good he is too us and want to share the good news of his grace and love with all people reguardless of where they live or look like. m gardner
We went from reaching out for Christ to pushing an anti-American agenda. Everyone was okay with it up to this point.
dogdoc
I've been through 2 splits in my 45 years. Both were over a pasture that part of the church wanted out. The first one I was a child and we followed the pasture to a new church. The last one was about 7 years ago. The pasture had a lot of health issues and after several back surgeries he became addicted to pain meds. He recognized the problem quickly and checked into a rehab. The elders of the church fired him. He started a new church which I went to a few times but decided to make a fresh start with a new church. We love the church we currently go to and the kids love it as well.
Jeramie
Churches sometimes lose appeal for one reason or another. Ive changed a few times for different reasons. We are actually between Churches right now because of some things we didnt agree with. You cant tell people how to live and then not take your own advice... This is over the foaming at the mouth attitudes over the new illegal immigration law we passed here. We found a new church that is focused on teaching the Bible and Christ, not politics, as it should be.

At the same time, a pastor knowingly breaking laws or even suggesting that it is ok is not the personality I would to follow to heaven either! BamaTrae
Wow, that's a problem I never thought of. Prayers sent for you, and any others in that situation. Churches sure can get on the wrong path sometimes.
