You funny John:D...

Yes, the first rumor around the site was they found a ship that was supposedly from the 1600's, but it dates earlier to the mid 1800's. None the less a great find. They were excavating in a area that was not previously dug when the original towers were built. The memorial pools are taking the old foot prints of the old towers. This was in the south end of the site. The job is not closed and the entire site is 16 acres. Where this ship was found was at the old waters edge. Much of lower Manhattans Battery Park city(West of WTC) is built from fill when the original towers were built back in the 60's. This area was never dug as deep as they are digging now. So the shore line was much closer than it is now. They kept dumping fill at rivers edge creating land. It makes sense to find nautical artifacts on where the shore line would be.

It is not where I am working. But I might take a stroll on by tomorrow for a look see wink.gif .

It has been the largest job I have ever been on in my 26 years in construction in NYC. I am proud to work there and being part of the rebuilding process is something quite special to me. The quality of the work that is getting put in is incredible. Every trade is busting their butt to make everything perfect.

Look here for the live job site web cam.

Are they going to move the boat or leave it there?

They will remove what they found after making sure the area is free of any other artifacts that could be of historical value. Construction will continue.

The ship area has, as I had expected it to become, a restricted area. My ID won't allow me access to that area. Everything is under strict security.
