LifeNRA
Well, after fighting with my motorcycle the last two months. I finally took it out to the dealer. They told me that hundreds of bikes and bikers have called in complaining about a similar problem that I have. It seems that the ethanol now being added to our gasoline is varnishing up the carbs. They also told me that it will be at least three weeks before I can get my bike in! This new problem is starting to rear its ugly head in small carb motors all across this country. This ethanol is crap! There was a gasoline station that was selling gas with NO ethanol. I could get at least 100 miles or more per tank of gas, compared to a gasoline with ethanol! How in the heck is this going to help us get away from foreign oil? We been duped! By the same idiots that wanted all this change! Thanks for nothing!!!:angry::angry:
Dawg
I agree 100%.
redkneck
Reeks havoc with outboards too. I try to avoid it like the plague. Seafoam works great if you've been using it.
RangerClay
Stay-Bil makes a treatment for this problem. I put it in everything.
Newarcher
Yep....my lawnmower repair shop said the same thing about lawnmowers, quads, blowers, etc. Not only that, you are paying subsidies for farmers to produce ethanol that takes way more than a gallon of diesel to produce a gallon of ethanol. Better yet, the ethanol production is also driving up the food price. I wonder if using seafoam will help? New
ruttinbuc
My outboard has been in the shop because of the garbage. The trouble is that the 10%is often a lot more than that. The blue Sta-bil, Startron and Seafoam are a must with every tank. You can't use too much. It is also best to run all of the gas out of the small engines. Ethan Givan
We have had the same problem with our lawn mowers, tillers, chainsaws, etc. That ethanol gums up and gets sticky after it sets for a while. It was causing the intake valve on our tiller to stick sometimes. Dont let gas set in the tanks over the winter thats for sure.
Shaun_300
Yeah ethanol is garbage! Especially for the smaller engines or carbed engines. That's only the 8 or 10% whatever it is ethanol. This new E85 crap is even worse. 85% ethanol that can be burned in the "Flex Fuel" vehicles. They say its way better for the environment, yet you get crappier fuel mileage, and it costs less. dbHunterNY
Yea in college I was in the SAE International Clean Snowmobile competition a couple years. Teams got mixed results that used E-85. There is potential to burn much cleaner, but fuel economy usually wasn't very good at all.

Yep, been buying this a lot lately! Stay-Bil makes a treatment for this problem. I put it in everything. Might have to ty this too I wonder if using seafoam will help? New Can't hurt! Oh and BTW, I forgot to mention that it will cost me $400 everytime I need this done! Our law makers suck!

A buddy of mine has a Suburban and ran E85 for a while. Apparently his fuel mileage dropped by about 20%, and it's only about 30 cents cheaper per gallon. I've got carb problems on my daughters 4 wheeler I need to take care of.
Jeramie
It is a mess. It will hard a fuel injection system too... It different if everything is designed to run ethanol but obviously its not..

This new E85 crap is even worse. 85% ethanol that can be burned in the "Flex Fuel" vehicles. They say its way better for the environment, yet you get crappier fuel mileage, and it costs less. I've got a 2009 Chevy Silverado that has Flex Fuel, and when I bought it I was assured by the dealer that my fuel milage would only drop by one or two gallons/mile when running straight E85. What a load of crap!!! Try more like 5 or 6 miles per gallon. E85 is about $0.60 cheaper than gas here, but when you figure in the loss of fuel milage it ends up costing you the same as if not more than regular unleaded. A few months ago I saw something on the news about dealerships and car mfgs. getting slammed for over exaggerating MPG claims and Flex Fuel capabilities. That was short lived tho, and I haven't seen anything about it since.
