ecmarc2
I am in need for new arrows. I am currently shooting a Mathew DXT, ~64lbs., 27.5" DL. I want a good quality hunting arrow. I am concerned about the pin spacing on my sight, however. My sight is the Extreme Archery RT900 4 pin sight. I am not experienced enough to confidently move my individual pins up or down to match the drop of the arrow at certain distances. I know the weight of my new arrow will determine that. Which arrow should I choose to hunt with (type and weight) and should I be worried about the dorp of the arrow vs. the vertical spacing of my sight pins? Thanks. Jeramie
My guess is that your bow is probably going to shoot around 280 -285 fps with a hunting arrow. The pins should work fine but you may have to adjust the sight for different ranges and then adjust the pins. The range you set your pins at will make a huge difference too. At that speed you should be fine using one pin from 20 yards to 0. Then you can set the others based from that first pin like 20, 30, 35, 40 or even 20, 30, 40, 50. Dont shoot beyond about 25 yards until you really feel comfortable with the setup. As far as arrows, Gold Tip 5575 XT is a great all purpose arrow. If you dont want to spend quite that much just get the Gold Tip 5575 hunter shaft. There are charts out there for arrow choice. It is based off of draw length, bow poundage, etc. You can find that chart on arrow makers websites (Gold Tip, Easton, Etc). Good luck and welcome to the forums! ecmarc2
Thanks, Jeramie. I was afraid I would have to move the pins, but if thats the way it is, then so be it. So you like Gold Tips. I have never shot them, so I will have to give them a try. I appreciate it.
wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. Lot of good arrows out there, currently shooting beman arrows here. Have not used that sight, but most sights are not too difficult to make adjustments, if needed. Might be worth your while to go in and talk with a local proshop. Ethan Givan
I will suggest Gold Tip arrows as well. Been shooting them for a while now and dont plan on changing anytime soon.
johnf
Good advice so far. I use Victory Vforce V6 400 spine and the GT 5575. I'm pulling 62lbs with a 27.5" . The GT's seem to group a little better at long ranges. I shoot out to 70 yards just about every day. The Vicotries generally group about seven inches at seventy yards and the GT's have grouped as close as 3" out that far. My groups aren't always that tight, but it seems the GT's are always tighter than the victories. BTW both have identical wraps and 2" helical blazer vanes. clrj3514
I shoot cheaper arrows than most people, but they are Gold Tips. They're the Dick's Sporting Goods special. Monster Buck Hunters 350gr. And I have a Mathew's Q2 with 29", 58.5# draw. They definitely work
dogdoc
another fan of Gold Tips. 5575 should be a great choice for you.
bluelund79
While I am a huge Gold Tip fan, I also shoot Beman ICS arrows as well. Both are very durable and affordable...as long as the arrows are spined correctly for your set-up, you'll be just fine.
