Who's got the best hot wing recipe?

Recommended Posts

I think the best wing recipe is the classic old Frank's hot sauce and butter. I believe the recipe calls for 1/2 cup of hot sauce and 1/4 cup of butter. Melt those two together and toss over the wings. I actually found that I prefer my wings baked rather than fried. This is probably because it is easier to clean up.

Sometimes we eat lunch at the caferia at the little community college in town where I work. When they serve lunch there's always some sauce in a huge container with a squirt top thingy on it. I love it, but only recently saw them filling it and saw that it was Frank's. I'll have to try making my own with it sometime like you posted. Do you marinate them, or just dip them and bake?

I usually bake them about 95% of the way, coat them, and then put them back in the oven for a few minutes to finish them up. Oh and I make sure to have a bottle or Hidden Valley ranch dressing on hand as well. They make such a good pair.

i do the same except when i first put them in i first rub em down with butter then season em to taste with pepper salt onion powder and garlic powder then when there 95% done then rub them down with butter again and throw the hot sauce on them or any other sauce u want

I would call myself a wing connoisseur :) I love hot wings! Personally I like them grilled, then coated with Louisiana Supreme Wing Sauce. I've tried pretty much all the other sauces made by Kens, Franks, kraft, etc. and the straight Louisiana Wing sauce has them all beat IMHO. It has just the right amount of kick and tang for the pure hot wing. You can dress it up with more hot sauce for extra kick.

BTW.. have you seen the price of wings lately.. geez.. $19 for a 10 lb bag at Sam's..

I use the Tabasco Green Jalapeno sauce instead of Franks Red Hot and butter. Melt 1/2 a stick in a medium bottle's worth of the Tabasco green. I'll either bake or grill the wings completely done and then shake them in a covered bowl to coat them with the sauce. It's no hotter than Franks Red Hot and I actually like it better.

It makes Green wings that are great for St. Patrick's day cookouts.

Otherwise when people get freaked out about them being green there's more for me :)

I keep mine simple.. I take 1 1/2 cup flour and mix in 2 TBS Chipotle powder.. I use water to wet the chicken.. Milk will burn, the water will evaporate.. Bread the wings and let rest for 20-30 minutes... The flour on the wings should look damp.. Deep Fry wings in 375* peanut oil.. Makes them crisp..

Then once drained I drop them in a large bowl and add my Chipotle Sauce..

Swirl around in the sauce and serve on a platter.. It doesn't get any better than that...

I tried the Louisiana supreme wing sauce. It was ok, but not as good as Frank's to me. Ken, I looked at my local groc store and they were out of Texas-Hunter Chipoltle sauce! :D

Hehe... I wish all the big food chains carried it... It is some good stuff..

The only thing wrong with the bottle of Texas-Hunter Chipotle Sauce I had a few years back was there wasn't 2 bottles of it. :toot:

I stepped up the production a little this year... I used a commercial kitchen to make my sauce this time around.. I made around 20 gallons.. And used 6 oz. bottles.. That is almost gone.. Sold most of it and still have a few bottles around.. I will be making another batch or two around October..

Glad you liked it..

I made some wings last weekend, probably the best thing I've made on the grill myself.....ever. :D

Got the charcoal grill going good, took some big wings, trimmed them up, dipped them in melted butter, seasoned with garlic powder and black pepper, and threw them on the grill. When they were close to done, I coated them in some Frank's Red Hot Sweet Heat BBQ sauce, and finished them up on the grill. Add some homemade potato salad, and a frosty beverage and you got yourself a meal.
