squirrel season

Recommended Posts

My son Marshall harvested his first one yesterday, and the bugger stayed in the tree 40 minutes after taking a full load of 6 shot from a .410. My squirrel was an instant kill with my newest toy, a 22 magnum. So two in the fridge in water, making squirrel and dumplings this morning...it goes to show you, if you make a great hit, stay near the tree....they will come out sooner or later. We had to leave the woods by 10am, the misquitoes were absolutely horrible...........al

Ours opens August 21st. Dont know if I will go or not. Too hot. I did get the Marlin 60 .22 out the other day and shot it some. Its on and ready to pop some squirrels if I get the notion to go. Problem is that by the time it gets cool enought to squirrel hunt, then it will be bow season for deer and I will be in a treestand all the time.

Shouldn't be. Doves, hands down. :D

I know...I'm excited, Chris...:D Been seeing way more than I usually do in the neighborhoods around here and am hoping that there may be more at my usual spot too. Don't know which scatter gun I should bring out after those deluctable little birdies, the CZ 12 ga. o/u, the NEF 20 ga. singl-shot or my great-grandfather's .410 bolt action. Last year I used the CZ most of the time, but the one dove I did shoot with my little 20 gauge was deader than any of the others I shot with the 12, big puff of feathers and he hit the dirt.

Dakota :)
