Strut10
........Crosby, the pup raising heck on the front porch and the Mrs. yelling "there's a bear out there!!!" Jumped out of bed and looked out the front bedroom window to see a smallish black bear standing about 40 yards off my front porch, looking up at Crosby. He was totally unimpressed by the carryings-on of a 6 month old Rottie boy. He stood for a spell then walked behind the barn and, evidently, into the corn. Guesstimating him in the 200 pound range. Prairiepredator
Cool story! Good thing the bear never bothered the dog!

sskybnd
That wouldn't be on my list of best mornings. mine either, 40 yards from my front porch would be a wee bit to close for me, maybe he was sizing up the dog for a later meal. Shaun_300
Yikes! That's not good, lucky he walked away. I'd be keeping a weatherby close by from now on.
Strut10
I believe he was just on his way somewhere else. Coming closer to the house/pup would have been a grave mistake on his part, as I'm generally quite prepared to handle any situation that may arise. Some of you may remember my "purple bear poop" picture post from a couple years back. Less than 10 yards off my front porch step. My wife's mom (350 yards across the field) regularly has the rotten buggers on her back deck.
