Tominator
I have a buddy that used to call red squirrels "fairy diddles" for some reason. I've heard people call grays "squacks" or the sound they make when alarmed.
Jeramie
Pretty much all the same with the exception of "Squackers." Ive heard more than a few people call them Squackers.

Rem308
I have a buddy that used to call red squirrels "fairy diddles" for some reason. We used to have a lot of Fairydiddles in the area that I hunt, though their numbers are down. I always thought they were a mix between a flying squirrel and red squirrel...but they are lightning fast. The joke always was that they could climb a tree, shake a few acorns out of it and run down and dig a hole before the acorn hit the ground. Anytime we'd be hunting and someone would get into them was always hilarious, an easy way to heat up the barrel on a shotgun! http://notesfromwoodlandhabitat.blogspot.com/2008/03/are-fairy-diddles-in-your-backyard.html

Sounds like the little gray squirrels around here. The big fox squirrels pretty much lumber along but those little grays tear up the woods!
