Ethan Givan
Any 2 3/4" shells, 7 1/2 or 8 shot. Doesnt matter. Usually go to walmart, and buy whatever the cheapest shells they have. You dont have to have nothing special to kill doves.

But sometimes people are particular about what they shoot and have certain loads they prefer or shoot best out of their gun...like me... I'm the same way with pheasant loads. You only need 2 3/4" 1 1/4oz. 4, 5 or 6...but I prefer Kent Fast Lead 3" 1 3/4oz. 5s and 6s. Knocks 'em dead even out to 60 yards. :2guns: Dakota Edited August 7, 2010 by Dakota

Dove hunting is about the only wing shooting I do. Other than that, rabbits and the occasional crow are the only things that I take with my shotgun. I just dont take the time to pattern or test different loads for small game. Ive used lots of different ammo and I have never had issues. I figure if I do my part and hit the target, then just about any ammo off the shelf is going to kill whatever Im shooting at. There are alot of dead rabbits, doves, and crows that can vouch for that. But if you want to be a little more methodical and really find the best shooting shells for dove hunting, then thats cool. Cant hurt. I shot trap yesterday, and I shot 3 different brands of shells with two different sizes of shot and I honestly couldnt see a difference. I hit well with all of them. Ohiobucks
This is a very interesting topic. When I bring my 20 gauge, after I blow threw whatever shells I brought, I start shooting whatever shells Chris brought. I can miss with his shells just as easy as I can miss with mine.... With my 12 gauge, I never miss. With any shells.

Shaun_300
I've never hunted doves, If I did it'd probably be #6 or #7 out of my 28ga, same as I use for grouse.
