Dakota
With all this heart stuff going on, I've gotten so weak I can't pull back my Monster but I can shoot my longbow and recurve. Think I'm going to have to go with those this year unfortunately. Anyone else bowhunt exclusively with these, especially out of a treestand? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! redkneck
I've never taken a deer with my longbow, I really need to get it out and hunt with it. But at 58lbs @ 28" and my shoulder injury, I am doubting this will be the year it makes a debut.
JimPic
As for advice...practice,practice,and practice some more. Keep your shots close and pick that spot. Most of my kills have been 12yds or under. Sharp COC broadheads on a properly spined arrow from a 40# bow will kill deer all day long if you put it where it needs to be. Treestand hunting is really no differant than hunting with a compound
Rhino
I found out the hard way that any treestand that has bars that extend in front of the seat section of the stand (like most climbers) presents potential problems for trad hunting that you don't have while hunting with a compound. I lost a great shot opportunity at at big 4x5 in Iowa once inside 15 yards because of that while hunting out of an Ol Man Vision climber. I couldn't get the clearance I needed for the lower limb. Also due to the need to cant my recurve I don't have as much of an angle to shoot behind the tree as I do with a compound.
okiedog
Not me.. my recurve riser split the other night, so I am out of the game until I can come up with another. This close to season doesn't look promising. To much other expense right now (lease, gas, etc). I'm probable going to keep my eye out on a nice used bow. rhine16
I'll take mine out for a few hunts, but it won't be exclusive.... Still looking for that first mature buck with a bow, and my chances are better with the compound.
Tony
Dang it Dakota you had to ask. i was going to get serious with my recurve this year, but since im headed to Montana in sept, the recurve got put on the back burner. any chance you can get a lower poundage compound to shoot? Tony Well, I've got an old Martin (1980s) but I don't have any accessories for it and I'm not planning on taking the accessories off of my Monster because I'm counting on getting stronger again after this heart stuff subsides. I've always wanted to try hunting with the longbow though...you know...something traditional I guess... Plus, that old Martin isn't reliable...it doesn't shoot good groups if I remember correctly...
