Deerhunted
These pics were taken by me around the 4th of July. Before I give specific details on it I first want to hear what you all think this is. Just so you know this was shot in Northeast US. This is a female that weighed 83lbs and was killed at 6:30am hunting with another larger one. It was shot chasing cattle, and unfortunately the other one escaped. So before I give more info what is your take on this.

Deerhunted
Well you guys pretty much hit the nail on the head. This was shot in Northwest PA by my girlfriends uncle. He didn't know what he had shot so he called the game commission to come take a look at it. The game commission came out with 3 officers and when they all saw it their mouths dropped and 2 of them just shut their mouths and didn't say a word. The other officer then started to examine the animal and pulled hair out and said if this was a wolf you wouldn't be able to pull its hair out. Now I don't know about you but this makes no sense what so ever. He then stated that wolves don't hunt in packs, while this one was with another, larger one. The officer then kept bashing him saying he prolly shot someones prized dog and to bury it and not say a word to anyone about it. Meanwhile if it were a prized dog it would have had a tracking chip. After the officer left he went on to tell people at the game commission what it really was, which was a wolf hybrid. My girlfriends uncle found out what was said from a friend of his (bet that officer wasn't expecting that to come out). Just angered people that the officer would lie to us about this. These are people we are supposed to trust and they can't even tell us what was really shot. But for people that don't believe there could be wolves or wolf hybrids in PA here's proof. dbHunterNY
No little coyote that's for sure. Who knows about the game warden. Hard to say what's what or what he thought without being there. His reasons are a little off if you ask me though.
Deerhunted
I am still trying to get the pics of the face, I would have taken them myself but I had my daughter in my arms while I took the pics and didn't want her to grab the bloody head haha...But a taxidermist that he had talked with said there was a full blooded timberwolf brought to him last year that was shot in the area and it wasn't there too long because the game commission came and took it away telling him to keep quiet. Don't know if they don't want to admit they are not there or they don't want to alarm people or what but they just make themselves look silly by telling lies. sureshot
This animal is deffinatly not a pure bred wolf, look at the back of the legs, easiest way to see if they have dog in them true wolf or coyote will not have fluffy woolly hair on back sides of legs, this one does, look at the short legs compared to a wolf, a wolf looks like his legs are really long, for easier getting around in snow, not saying its not a cross, prob had malimute blood, but I would bet its not pure bred! Deerhunted
No definitely not a purebred, but a cross is what we all said when we discussed it.

paul bertram
Sorry, but that looks like a plain ol' dog to me. I think the reason they deny the existence of certain species is to keep the woods open for us. when they admit another species, [that is especially romanticized by the tree hugging bambi petters] it can result in major activism to get whole portions of national forest shut off from public use until s t u d i e s are done to determine...yadda yadda yadda . Ethan Givan
Looks like a dog mix to me. It might have some coyote mixed in it. We have coyote and dog hybrids, or coydogs, around here and they are usually larger than a normal coyote. They are not afraid of humans either and they generally cause more problems than a full blood yote. Id guess thats what you have there. shockwave
Do you have a better pic of it head ?? What color were its eyes ?? Wolves and coyotes have yellow eyes is the reason i asked..
bobwhite
It needed to be shot what ever it was because if it is chasing a mans lively hood (cattle) something had to be done. And I wish the game commission would stop trying to pull the wool over our eyes on things like this.
oneshot
Illinois is the same way, they just won't tell the truth!!!!! I don't believe anything the IDNR says!!!!! The biologists argued with me that coyotes don't hunt in packs (family groups) nor do coyotes attack people. Both those statements are toal lies!!!!
