clrj3514
You're gonna want to get your ground blind set up early to let the deer get used to it. Be sure to have a good prevailing wind & scent control since you're eye-level with the animals. Also keep movement to a minimum.

Yea we pretty much set up our ground blinds like we would hang a stand. Make sure your blind is brushed in well also. What kind of terrain are you hunting & what kind of weapon? Bow only? I'd just try to find an area with a good amount of ground cover near some good trails.

boar54
hi slickheadhunter I found that if you have your bow in a vertical position instead of horizontal then all you have to do is bring your bow straight up instead of taking it off your lap and then moving it vertical its alot less movement. also move slowly .draw your bow when the deers head is behined a tree or they are looking away . good luck to her . RangerClay
Well thanks for all of your help im getting geared up going to set up her blind later in the week. thanks again i will talk to you again somtime Ground blinds are awesome for newbies. Wait till you take the kids hunting, pop-up blinds pay for themselves in spades.
Jeramie
One thing I havent noticed yet... Make sure you get the blind setup weeks in advance and let the deer get use to it. Ive been busted more than once because of a blind. Once they get use to it youre gold but at first they will notice it. Doesnt take long for them to ignore it but its a must to have it setup early! Stinger-Hunter
Ground blinds do not forgive mistakes. Silence, Stillness, and Scent Control. Both of you must practice: how will you tell her there is a deer coming? How will she tell you there is a dear coming? I hope you will work out some hand signals or by making innocuous sounds that no one can hear but you. Nothing worse than you whisper, "there's one right there." And she whips her head around and says, "Where!" " I don't see it" Silence, Stillness and Scent Control. Practice it before the hunt. During the commercials, practice for 2 minutes. Turn the TV off, sit next to each other and practice communicating. Does she have her directions down? For example, if you said, "There a buck at 11 o'clock." Would she know where that is - I don't mean she doesn't know, I mean when she is nervous and anxious and either cold or hot, will she be able to think under pressure and excitement. She needs to get those skills down pat. You as well. I sat in a groundblind one time and realized after there was a deer 8 feet from me that if I drew my bow, the arrow would be sticking out of the blind by about 3 feet and the deer would see it. I sat there as 5 does passed by me, looking right at me for 10 minutes and I couldn't take a shot. Practice, rehearse, think of worse case scenarios and work through them. The experience is worth the whole 60 minutes of practicing and discussing the hunt. Have fun, good luck.
Epicst
I grew up hunting from the ground and like everyone else. Its all about cover. Cover in front on the sides and even behind you. Keep movment slow and don't have to much. Eye level with a deer is not an easy task. Good luck.
