elnor
I drew a once-in-a-lifetime Oklahoma pandhandle any antelope tag for Texas County and I'm looking for landowners willing to grant access. I've spoken with the Wildlife Department biologist and he made some recommendations for how to locate willing landowners once I'm out in the pandhandle, but I'd love to have at least one or two options lined up before driving out if at all possible. Especially given the short duration of the hunt (Sep 9-12 only). If you know of anyone that might be able to help me, I'd greatly appreciate any lead and contact info you could provide. Thanks in advance!
Jeramie
Im not sure if the public land stretches into Texas County? Anyway, I know you dont like going un-armed but when I hunted Cimaron county (September 2008) I got more permission by just stopping and asking then I ever thought I could have. There is NOTHING out there and people really dont care for the most part. If it were me I would try to button down a small area and then plan on stopping to ask permission. I actually got on quite a few goats that way. Another though is right now there are listings for hunts (in december) on craigslist. The guy got land owner tags and is selling them. One plot he has is 10,000 acres. I would get his number from craigslist and see if you can get the land owners name. They may let you on for like $100. I wouldnt even mention money unless they say no. Most people out there were really nice and more than willing to let me on for free..... Here is the link to the guy on Craigslist... If nothing else im sure he knows people in the area and can get you on some place..... Keep in mind you can stop and ask and people a lot of the times will say yes! Dont spend a serious wad of cash for a hunting spot. http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/spo/1896253768.html
elnor
I'll check Craigslist out, thanks for that pointer. Yeah, I am hoping to have at least something lined up before I head out, but I also plan to road scout and talk to people after I get out there. I don't think there's any public land in Texas Co; and when I called the ODWC biologist listed as a contact for the hunt, his tips all centered on meeting people and asking once I'm out there. So, I'm planning to head out a day or two before the hunt and see what I can spy and who I can speak with about permission. I'm really excited as not only did I draw this OK hunt, but my dad and I drew WY antelope tags after several years with no luck. So after we leave Guymon, it's time to point the truck northwest for central WY. Should be quite the trip!
Jeramie
That should be a good trip! There are a TON of goats in Western Oklahoma. Wyoming had so many goats it was crazy. From Cheyene to the NW corner (Yellowstone) I dang near got sick of seeing them.
bugleward
oklahoma lope hunts Hey bud: We have some great lope hunting property in Oklahoma. We just leased somewhere around 17,000 acres with lots of lopes. My partner is running that for the time being. It's very new to us. I do know there are a lot of good bucks. We are also a Realtree Recommended outfitter. Please feel free to visit our web site and give us a call if you are interested. http://www.antelopeoutfitters.com/ If you choose to go it on your own, best of luck to you buddy. Lopes are great fun. Be sure to post pictures of your hunt as well. Again, good luck and have fun.
elnor
Thanks for the info. I definitely want to hunt DIY style. Do you have any property leased in Texas Co, OK (my tag is for that county west of Hwy 136 only), or is it in Cimarron Co? If in Texas Co, would you consider a small trespass fee for a self guided hunter?
bugleward
lopes Hey bud: Our property is around Boise City. Not even sure what direction from Boise City yet. My partner just got it leased last weekend. Tons of lopes there though. If that will work for you -- let me know. Being the first year we might want to get into it a bit and just be sure of what we have. My best guess is you would be with my partner Brodey Davis. He is a very sharp hunter and will be a good guide. Please feel free to call me in the evening. I would be happy to help out.
elnor
Thanks again for your response. Unfortunately Boise City is not in Texas Co, so this won't work for my hunt. Best of luck with your leases and business, though.
Oklahunter
Elnor, this thread is obviously pretty old. But I actually drew an antelope hunt in Texas county for a doe this year. Did you have luck with any particular landowners on your hunt?
