I just wonder how many of you clowns have ever hunted over bait? legal or illegal? yeah he baits them, he provides prime habitat for them on HIS land and they come! and so he uses a little c'mere deer for the camera! God bless him!:cool2:

Ummmm...he claims to have used C'Mere Deer to harvest a record book blacktail...it just happens that the cameras were there...

Ummmm...where it is LEGAL, baiting is a legitimate alternative...

Ummmm...if it was a million candle power light that he used, would you still be singing his...errrrrr...ummmmmm...virtues?

I wonder how the tone of the replies would change if his name was Joe Nobody. I'll bet there would be no apologetic forgiveness going on. I guess stardom does have its privileges .... eh? I've seen it before, and we normally are not this forgiving of game law violators.

Doc

I wonder if it's because of all the positives he's done for hunting and gun rights as opposed to stardom? If the baiting was done to get a good shot for the show I would be opposed, but in honesty it wouldn't change my overall opinion of him becasue the scale tips too far to the positive side even with this incident. We all screw up and most of us have likely broke game laws at some point in time. I know some of the IL laws I strongly disagree with and some I even believe to be unethical. I just avoid situations where I would have to follow those laws.

He was obviously in the wrong..... hence the fine and his willingness to pay it. Am I tossing him up on the Cross because of it? No. I wont make excuses for him either. He did something illegal.

However, he is a large personality for the hunting and gun owning world. For me to dislike him because of a few stupid choices isn’t going to happen. When I look at the balance sheet for the opposition it makes him look squeaky clean.

Carry on Nuge. You screwed up but I cant let one "Oh Crap" ruin a truck load of "Atta Boys."

It doesn't change my opinion of the guy at all. I'm waiting to hear his side of the deal but, in reality, I stand with him on this one. As per the article, Nugent didn't try and defend his actions in any way. To me it looks like he found out that he had screwed up with bad judgment and paid the fines for it.

No matter what you think of the guy, you have to admit that he chose a path that puts his butt and reputation on the line for most of us who like to hunt. He's made plenty of cash and could have quietly retired to his ranch with Shemane and family. Instead, he chose to be a spokesman for all of us who love to hunt, fish and shoot. By doing so, he painted a really big bullseye right on the center of his forehead and he lets the Liberal Weak Sisters take stabs at his constantly. It was only a matter of time before somebody went looking hard for anything they could find on the guy. That doesn't mean what he did was right, but I do think he deserves credit for all he's accomplished and all he continues to fight for.

With all of that said, I'm not sure if I could personally last around the guy for more than about 20 minutes. Just way too intense for this laid by Texas boy.

My 0.02 for what it's worth,

Boy! this guy really has a following here. I have to laugh at some of these replies, because I simply can't relate to Nugent's hero status at all. It was exactly his style of music that drove me to begin listening to country music ..... lol. That chaotic screaming and shrieking with squealing notes that were never intended to come out of a guitar left me completely out of the rock scene for quite a few years. So the man has no celebrity status with me. For me this story is just about another lawbreaking poacher that happens to have hunting shows, which also aren't all that special or entertaining for me. No real controversy to any of it for me. You caught him.....now fry him. grin.gif End of story!

Rock star and gun rights advocate Ted Nugent was fined $1,750 Friday in Yuba County Superior Court after pleading no contest to a charge of baiting deer on his hunting show "Spirit of the Wild."

Yuba City attorney Jack Kopp, representing Theodore Anthony Nugent, entered the plea to Department of Fish and Game charges of baiting deer and not having a deer tag "countersigned" at the closest possible location, said Deputy District Attorney John Vacek.

Nugent, who did not appear in court, also illegally shot an immature buck on the show but was not charged, according to Fish and Game.

Baiting deer is legal in some states but not in California, said department spokesman Patrick Foy. Baiting supplies are sold at some outdoor stores, he said.

The deer was killed in El Dorado County toward the end of deer hunting season last fall but brought to Yuba County. Two co-defendants, Mitchell Neil Moore and Ross Albert Patterson, live in Yuba County, said Vacek.

Moore was a photographer on the Outdoor Channel show. Patterson, who pleaded no contest to taking an animal with bait, actively spread bait called "C'mere Deer." His family owns the El Dorado County property where the hunt took place, said Foy.

Two deer were killed after being baited, said Vacek.

Moore and Patterson also were represented by Kopp and did not appear in court. Moore, who pleaded no contest to possessing an animal illegally, was fined $700. Patterson was fined $1,225.

Judge James F. Dawson ordered all three men to pay the fines by Oct. 1.

Nugent was originally facing a charge of killing a "spike" — an immature buck — on the program, but the charge was dropped during negotiations between his attorney and the Yuba County District Attorney's Office, said Foy.

A spike is a deer with two antlers that have not yet "forked," Foy said.

A Fish and Game warden saw the show in March and "just about fell out of his chair" when he saw Nugent with the buck, according to Foy.

A subsequent investigation led to the baiting charge. A search warrant was served in April at Moore's home in Yuba County, said Foy.

Nugent was "very cooperative" when contacted in March after the show aired, Foy said.

Fish and Game decided to treat Nugent as it would any other violator and so did not issue a press release when the charges were filed Aug. 6, Foy said.

Kopp declined comment as he left the courtroom.

A Nugent assistant at "Tedquarters" in Jackson, Mich., Linda Peterson, and his music management firm, McGhee Entertainment, had no comment.

Nugent is on a concert tour, including several stops in California, according to his website.

A Nugent biography on the website activemusician.com calls him "an outspoken advocate of hunting and gun ownership rights and the owner of 350 guns himself."

Nugent has served on the National Rifle Association's board of directors since 1995 and has had a long adversarial relationship with the animal rights movement, according to the biography.

Just so we all know just what the actual charges were...

Apparently, they 'bargained' away the shooting of the illegal deer, and only went after the baiting and improper tagging. (Now you know why he plead no contest;))

Horrible Nuge lyrics. How could anyone like this?

There I was, back in the wild again

And I felt right at home where I belong

I had that feelin' comin' over me again

Just like it happened so many times before

The spirit of the woods is like an old good friend

It makes me feel warm and good inside

I knew his name and it was good to see him again

'Cuz in the wind he's still alive

Oh, Fred Bear, walk with me down the trails again

Take me back, back where I belong

Oh, Fred Bear, I'm glad to have you at my side, my friend

And I'll join you in the big hunt before too long

Before too long

It was kinda dark, another misty dusk

And it came from a tangle down below

I tried to remember everything he taught me so well

I had to decide which way to go

Was I alone or in a hunter's dream?

'Cuz the moment of truth was here and now

I felt his touch, I felt his guiding hand

The buck was mine, forevermore

Because of Fred Bear

I'll walk down these trails again

Take me back where I belong

Oh, Fred Bear, I'm glad to have you at my side my friend

And I'll join you in the big hunt before too long

We're not alone when we're in the great outdoors

We got his spirit, we've got his soul

He will guide our steps, he'll guide our arrows home

The restless spirit forever roams

Fred Bear, walk with me down the trails again

Take me back, back where I belong

Oh, Fred Bear, I'm glad to have you at my side, my friend

And I'll join you on the big hunt before too long

Oh, Fred Bear, walk with me down the trails again

Take me back, back where I belong

Oh, Fred Bear, I'm glad to have you at my side, my friend

And I'll join you in the big hunt before too long

In the wind he's still alive

In the wind he's still alive

In the wind he's still alive

In the wind he's still alive

In the wind, I hear, I hear Fred Bear

(I hear ya Fred,

Talk to me,

yea ,

its all right

lets go hunting baby

Say Fred, you go up on that ridge

And I'll go down in the swamp

We'll get that buck)

(Fred)

(If some of our teenage thrill seeker really want to go out and get a thrill.

Let them go up into the north west and let them tangle with a Grizzly bear

or Polar bear or brown bear and get that effect that will cleanse the soul

Always amazed at how unforgiving certain forum members can be. He did wrong, he apologized and paid the fine. Move on. If he was a jackwagon like Jimmy Houston, then I'd say heap it on. :D

Great answer Jeremie & Chris! A year or so ago we were all ready to lynch Jim Zumbo but not one word was said when he took Dakota hunting two weeks ago. Ted got his hand slapped and paid fine, let's move on.

As for baiting, they all do it. Watch most shows (even here on RT) where they are hunting in Sask. and 95% of them are hunting over a bale of hay. Just this morning I saw Ralph & Vicky hunting Old Mexico and there was something scattered on the ground (probably corn). It's no big deal to me that some of them bait but at times it's not as entertaining.

I laugh at the anti bait people. It's ok to legally bait a bear, antelope, hog, coyotes, and a bunch of Africa critters, but if we drop one kernal of corn for deer then hang someone on the cross. My co-worker plants a small crop of corn then sits in a blind overlooking it. Then he is quick to condem someone who dumps a bag of corn on the ground. ITS THE SAME THING!

What's wrong with Jimmy? He's the Chuck Norris of the fishing world. :flex:

I laugh at some of the replies too. It was mentioned that if Ted were a "Joe Nobody" then we would all jump on him. Got news for you, most of everyone here is that "Joe Nobody" to me. If you were in the same situation as Ted, my answer would still be the same.

Remember that high fence "hunt" when he had that deer pinned against a fence and he's doing that stupid laugh of his the whole time?

:offtopic:

I don't recall that. However, my comment was sarcastic. His laugh irritates the fire out of me.

No sir, I sure don't.

The Nuge has taken it on the chin for many years promoting gun rights and hunting. We have all made mistakes. Is it disappointing for someone who likes him...Yup. Will I not like him anymore because of this incident?...No.

Wasn't it last year some of our most revered professional hunters.

Greg Ritz, Stan Potts and some of the Bone Collectors( who shall remain nameless:rolleyes:) were caught up in some illegal hunting activity in Kentucky?

How did those guys get a pass on what they did? HUH?

When Jim Zumbo spoke out about no one should have an AR15, the man was vilified for it. He was wrong. Who did Zumbo go to for correction?

The Nuge. Uncle Ted got him back on track and opened his eyes to the wonderful world of Black rifles.

AND...

He took Dakota hunting and many vets also.

Come on... just on the simple fact that every time Uncle Ted burps...He burps out the word...Baaa-rack. That alone should get him a pass on this one :D.

Ted Nugent is a active Law enforcement officer(deputy sherrif) in Katy, Texas. I do not think for one minute that he would have knowingly broke the law. But ultimately the responsibility comes down to the one releasing the arrow or dropping the hammer.

It's a fact. If Nugent wasn't one of these hunter heroes with a R&R celebrity background, he would be jumped all over like I have seen done so many times before when the violator had no more status than just a simple hunter. We don't seem to tolerate game law breaking very well, nor should we. But something seems to change when the violator is some sort of celebrity. That's when you start hearing all the justifications and excuse-making. With some, there's basically a double standard that gets applied.

Far from true. What Ted did was wrong and he is paying the price. He broke the law once and I really believe he did not know it. Who in their right mind would put it on a tv show knowing it was illegal? The guy is no Noel Feather. He has done more for hunting and the pro 2nd amendment then pretty much anyone. For that I will cut him some slack. Even if he was Joe Nobody he would deserve a second chance in a situation like this. How many people have opened a camp for kids to take terminally ill kids hunting when Make a Wish wouldn't. None of the haters in this thread. As far as promoting C'mere Deer, anyone one this forum would if they came home to a pile of money for doing so. It is no different then Waddell and Dinty Moore, Rome and Five Hour Energy and so on. Ted can come off a little harsh, but he is the same ole Ted every time. I like that in a person. We saw Ted in concert last year. I hope I have half the energy he has when I turn 60. The guy is intense and full of life....

Ted Nugent is the kind of person you either like or dislike his personality. There is no middle ground. He is a foul mouthed, ranting machine who does more to alienate the non-hunters (the vast majority of people) than any other hunting celebrity. It is hardly surprising that he got caught hunting illegally as his goal appears to be killing at any cost, and high fenced hunts with a lot of baiting seems to be his forte. Getting children involved in the shooting and hunting world is his best accomplishment, although I hope he holds back on the vile language when he is talking with our youth. For the people who like him, he has already been forgiven and for those who dislike him, he is just another poacher (no excuse to not know the law, if he didn't).
