92xj
Yesterday I get home from work and there is a smile pile of bile on the floor. No big deal, dogs throw up and when they dont have any food in them this is all that comes up. I have had dog get sick in the past, so I watered her, cleaned the carpet, fed her some food and thats that. She normally scarfs down the food but yesterday evening she didnt touch it. She wouldnt even eat the ice cube that I give her as her treat. No biggie, she has an upset stomach, she will come around soon. Couple hours later I give her a bath, she runs around, plays, comes in and drinks a little water and goes to sleep. I put her normal amount of food in her bowl and she doesnt touch it. At some point between 2 and 5 hours later she eats the bowl of food. 1 am, she throws up a very small amount of food. It wakes me up, I clean up take her outside, she pees and tries to poo. It looked like she was straining a little without much output. She finishes up and comes inside. Drinks some more and we go to bed. 3 am rolls around and I wake up to her puking her brains out. I now have the entire bowl of food on the floor in three piles. Clean up, put her outside and she is running around the yard chasing the neighbors dog through the fence. She looks fine, is acting somewhat normal, but not drinking anything yet. I am not going to give her any food and will be coming home from work in 7 hours to check on her. My question is, how long should I wait to take her to the vet? She has been hydrating herself pretty good after each puke session. Is there anyway to tell if its something more than just an upset tummy? Anything I can give her? I will have an update of upchuck in 7-8 hours from now. I hate this for her and know I am over thinking things by thinking she has some deadly sickness but I'm worried. I cant imagine having kids if I am stressing this bad over my pup. Maggie 8 months old Airedale Got from the shelter at 5 months old They gave her shots there, but I am not sure of which ones. Will be calling this morning to find out have had rabbies shot and been spayed. And one more question. What is the timeline for shots for a dog at 8 months? When should shots have been given at each month of age and which shots? Sorry for the long winded post and i could have PMed, but figured this would be a good post to have in the forum for future seaches of members for sick pups. Thanks. 92xj
Well, update number 1. As I was finishing the post she ran outside and threw up again. It must be getting to the end of the food inside of her. It was a very small amount of well digested food. She came in and drank some water and is looking at me like she always does and still looks and acts like she normally does in the morning. dogdoc
Since she has probably only had one vaccination at the shelter I would be suspecting parvo. Getting just one vaccination without a follow up booster 3 to 4 weeks doesn't provide full protection. Another thought could be an obstruction. Young dogs like to chew and eat anything. If they swallow something to large to pass it can get caught in the stomach or small intestines. Surgery is required to remove the obstruction. Pup could have also eaten something (bad food, plant) that has irritated the lining of the stomach and small intestines. This can also cause vomiting like this. If you come home today and still vomiting then you need to get into the vet ASAP. good luck todd

Turkeygirl
I was thinking maybe obstruction also. I'd def. take her to get checked out by the vet....the longer you wait, the worse it could get:-/
92xj
Doc, Got ahold of the shelter, they gave her- Parvo - DA2PT Bordetilla (sp) Rabbies (sp) This was all around 5 months old. She is now 8 months old. What shots does she need. My vet is out of town for a week. Maggie seems to be doing good now, no more vomit, Will be checking on her again in a couple of hours. Alisha
Sorry to hear this Ben! Has she had a normal bowel movement at all since this started? I'm with dogdoc in saying that it sounds like an obstruction. I would get her into another Vet ASAP as I would consider this quite serious. Good thoughts for little Maggie! 92xj
Just got back from the vet. Blood work was clean. X-rays, not so much. They believe they see something, but not sure what yet. Its a very good possibilty of being the folds in her stomach or it could be an object not suppose to be in there. I have to watch her tonight to see how vomiting goes. Then give her a small amount of food in the morning and see what happens with it. If it comes back up, I have very bad news for Maggie, if it stays down, she might be good. The one time I wish I never bought this house to have more money is right about now. I dont want to lose her.... :angel2:
