bfletch7441
I've got a great uncle that has witched more than a few wells, with almost 100% success, coming up to witch my folks a well this Friday. Not sure if I believe in it or not, but I'm definitely interested to see the outcome. Anyone seen it done before? Ben
NBomb500
Yep, not a believer, but I guess it is possible. Kinda cool to watch though.
Texan_Til_I_Die
I've seen people use the technique to find buried water lines. 100% accurate if you have the knack.
RTPROFamily
Ben, We live on the family farm that had the well witched by my husbands late Uncle many many years ago. The well is so deep, we can accidentally leave the garden hose on all night, while doing laundry, showers, etc. without losing any pressure. Our family believes in the well witching. Good luck! bfletch7441
100% accurate if you have the knack. That's what I hear about Uncle Kenneth. He's been doing it for 50 years, and people swear by him. He said he'll give us a depth to water. If he's right after they drill it, you can count me as a believer. Jeramie
Ive seen it done many times with a branch from a tree. I dont think ive ever seen it done with the rods though. There really isnt a science to it but people in Okieland have been doing it forever and believe in it strongly.
c_lou
BELIEVER right here. My uncle used to do it just to show people it could be done. I had the witch nearly ripped out of my hands at a future well site. Would have never believed if it hadn't happened.
bfletch7441
I went to the Oklahoma Water Resources Board website and got some well logs for the area, so we'll see how it all compares. After talking to JaLynn, my wife, last night, if Uncle Kenneth puts mom and dad on water, I'll have him witch me one too. May even try my hand at it. Strut10
Geology major, here, with a decent background in hydrogeology. All I have to say about water witchers is...........
Ethan Givan
Yes it does work. My grandpa could do it, and so can my dad. Ive watched him do it and Ive seen it work. You have to use a certain type tree limb, I think he used an apple tree branch. He found the old well next to our house by doing it. He knew it was there but didnt know where exactly. He witched for water and he found the well. We dug down and found it. Geology major, here, with a decent background in hydrogeology. All I have to say about water witchers is........... I dont care what science says, if you see it with your own eyes and observe it, then thats all the proof you need.
mike
i have found a few water lines and even some sewer lines doing it. i am a believer
buckee
I wish they wouldn't call it witching, because it has nothing at all to do with witchcraft. I had a guy (one of my paint customers) show me how to do it last summer in his front yard. It was pretty amazing really. I found where his water-line was, and his sprinkler line. All I have to say about water witchers is........... +1 I've always thought it was a crock too, Don, but let the old men have fun playing with their sticks. I've seen it done by old codgers years ago and when the well was dug and water was found they just smiled. I've never seen a well dug around these parts that didn't find water..... witch or no witch. Almost sounds like you're arguing global warming theory. Please explain to me what the external force it is that would cause two metal rods to cross or a peach limb to dip when held ovber an aquifer. Please explain to me why I have seen an irrigation well driled smack in the middle of a peach orchard but none of the peach trees' limbs were being pulled downward. I'd think the poor peach trees should look like weeping willows if they are planted over an aquifer. When I was younger, my grandpa used to be able to pull my nose off and then put it back again. I don't care what the science says...............I saw it with my own eyes. That's all the proof I need.

Around my neck of the woods we have water everywhere too. My primary well is less than 50' deep. Im guessing you could pick a spot at random and find water. I have noticed that when the peach limbs and peaches around here fall, the go downward. I guess that's because the water is underground. Texan_Til_I_Die
I have no idea what the science is behind it, although I certainly believe there is some. It's definitely not magic. Like I said, I've watched an individual, actually he was a plumber, walk across someone's yard using the rods method and with no guidance from the owner, plans, drawings or any other resource, locate the buried water or sewer line with 100% accuracy. I've personally witnessed it maybe 20 to 30 times and he never missed a single time. In fact, he was never off more than a couple of inches. Ohiobucks
Something that man has been doing since the 1500's, shows some merit to it's effectiveness. I've never seen it myself, but I'm not discounting it's place either.

So I guess you know and understand absolutely everything about our planet. Im sorry, I didnt know I was dealing with the all knowing. Im sure scientists around the world are lining up at your door for answers about things they cant explain. Come on...we all know scientists admit everyday that they dont understand why some things work a certain way or how something happens etc. Black holes are a perfect example. We know they exist but we dont really understand how they work or where they go. I seriously doubt any scientists have even researched well witching. There has probably never been any research done so there for they couldnt know how it works. Just because science cannot explain it does not mean it doesnt exist. Some people can find water this way and some cant.

Strut10
What does global warming have to do with what I said? IIRC, you had previously said this: I dont care what science says, if you see it with your own eyes and observe it, then thats all the proof you need. If you've researched the global warming theorist much, you'll see that they subscribe to the same scientific method........or lack thereof. Your trying to compare apples and oranges here. Observing something gives your opinion alot more merit than not observing something. Neither of us can prove we are right. Its like religion, you either believe it or not from your own experieces. I know what I saw, simple as that.
